A prospectus is now available from Sequoia National Forest concerning applications for providing commercial whitewater boating outfitter and guide services on the Kern River.

“We are looking for the best qualified applicants with the demonstrated ability to provide high quality outfitting and guiding services for whitewater boating,” said Dave Powers, Acting Forest Supervisor.

All three segments of the river - the Forks of the Kern, the Upper Kern, and the Lower Kern - are included in this business opportunity. The forest intends to authorize up to two special use permits as a result of this offering.

Rhonda Stallone of Mountain & River Adventures in Kernville said the Forest Service anticipates that 40 to 60 outfitters will be pursuing the two permits.

Sealed applications must be postmarked or received at the Forest Supervisor's Office no later than 4:30 p.m., Pacific Time, on Monday, October 23, 2006.

To obtain a prospectus, contact Cheryl Bauer, Kern River Ranger District, P.O. Box 9, 105 Whitney Road, Kernville, CA 93238 or by phone at (760) 376-3781.
