Judi McCarthy, Chair of the Women's and Girls' Fund of Kern County, announced March 1 the non-profit fund, operating under the Kern Community Foundation, exceeded its first fundraising goal. “Thanks to 145 Founders, 17 Pledged Founders, and 123 additional members, plus stellar returns through the Kern Community Foundation, our endowment surpassed $260,000 in February. This is four months ahead of our schedule to raise $250,000 by June 1, 2007,” McCarthy said.

The Women's and Girls' Fund will hold its third annual Bakersfield luncheon on May 15. Invitations will go out in April; the cost will be $35, with reserved tables of 8 for $300.

Local founders include Mary Barlow, Deborah Hess, Judy Hyatt, Sherry Lanza, Pamela Ott, Cathy Perfect and Amber Siratt, Jeanette Rogers, and Dr. Holly Spohn-Gross.
