Family Resource Center begins this year’s annual 'Be an Angel Program'

The KRV Family Resource Center’s "Be An Angel" gift program will be held November 9 through December 7. Parents can sign up eligible children ages 11 to 18 years who are no longer eligible for Toys for Tots. Each angels’ ornament is placed on the Family Resource Center’s Christmas tree with the child's age, gender, and three wishes for "something special" on it. Agencies, organizations or individuals can "adopt" a child or a set of siblings up until Monday, December 10. Donations are also accepted. Gifts need to be brought to the Family Resource Center unwrapped by Friday, December 14. All donations will remain anonymous.

Holiday dinner to be held for the needy

The annual Salvation holiday dinner for Kern River Valley residents that are low income and needy will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Senior Center in Lake Isabella.¬ÝThe dinner will be served from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A dinner will include a full course Thanksgiving meal with all of the fixings. Helping hands ministries would also like to thank all of the local restaurants , community cooks and volunteers, that have made it possible to accommodate 200 guests, thank you for all of the food donations as well as your never ending support. If you would like to contribute to this cause by bring pumpkin pies, donating a turkey, baking a turkey, or just volunteering as a cook, server or clean up person, call 760-379-5100.¬Ý We appreciate the many people who make this dinner possible by volunteering to help.¬Ý We cannot help in our community without you.¬Ý If you cannot call to volunteer in advance, you may just show up Saturday Nov. 17 at 12 noon.¬Ý Cooked pies and turkeys should be delivered to the center¬Ýby 1:00 pm the day of the event. If you are a local resident or family who might not get a holiday feast we welcome you to join us in celebrating this holiday season. If you would like to attend you must sign up before the dinner at Web Recycling, Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm, in the alley behind Crossroads Shell station or at the Community Christian Service Center, Monday through Thursday¬Ý 9 am to 2 pm, at 6105 Lake Isabella Blvd., next to Johnstone's.
