Kern Senior care is preparing for their 3rd annual non profit program "Be a Santa to a Senior".

Last year the program was able to deliver more than 2,000 gifts to more than 800 isolated seniors. This year Kern Senior care is asking for the community’s help to make the program a success again. "Our community's organizations, local businesses and volunteers made this program a huge success last year" said Debora Savoy of Kern Senior Care, "This year we are looking for more donation boxes."

Be a Santa to a Senior works in much the same way other programs of its kind do. Kern Senior care sets up Christmas trees at various locations around the county. On the trees are ornaments with gift ideas printed on them. Participants in the program take the ornament, buy the gifts and return them to the location where they got the ornament. Then Kern Senior care collects the gifts, wraps them and the delivers them to less fortunate seniors.

The program targets seniors who are living in their homes who do not have the benefit of an activity director, but Kern Senior care also excepts nominations for seniors.

There are a few guidelines regarding gifts, no candy (unless sugar free), no perishable food items, no live gifts (plants, animals). Also the program directors ask that you do not wrap your gift. All gifts are due back to the drop off locations by Tuesday December 4.
