Jorge Montijo, 19, of Weldon was airlifted to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield on Saturday after sustaining numerous facial lacerations in a motorcycle accident in Southlake, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Montijo and his passenger, Linda Brown, 21, also of Weldon, were riding Montijo’s 1978 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Hwy. 178 Frontage Road west of Shawnee Drive in Southlake when another motorcycle, a 2004 Tora MC, driven by a 16-year-old boy, also of Weldon, inadvertantly steered directly into the path of Montiijo’s motorcycle. The front tire of Montijo’s motorcycle clipped the rear tire of the juvenile’s motorcycle, which caused Montiijo to lose control of his vehicle.

Both Montiijo and Brown were fully ejected from the motorcycle and struck the asphalt roadway. Both were wearing helmets, but CHP reported neither of the helmets were buckled properly and the helmets came off of their heads during the collision.

Montiijo received numerous lacerations as a result of the collision. Brown sustained minor injuries. The extent of the juvenile’s injuries, if any, were not reported.
