The Cyrus Canyon Partners held a workday on Feb. 7 to make safety improvements on existing features at Cyrus Canyon’s off-highway vehicle track (OHV), located off Sierra Way in Kernville.

The Cyrus Canyon Partners is a partnership between the Friends of Cyrus Canyon in memory of Matt Lupercio, Stewards of the Sequoia, Friends of Jawbone, California Off-Road Vehicle Association, Kernville Chamber of Commerce, Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce, Kern River Valley Revitalization, the American Motorcycle Association ’Äì District 37 and the Sequoia National Forest.

Cyrus Canyon Partners make improvements to the off-highway vehicle tract at Cyrus Canyon Feb. 7.

The group of eight volunteers removed approximately 150 feet of barbed wire replacing it with mesh wire fencing and installed three additional barriers along the track perimeter to ensure a more stabilized divider between riders and spectators.

Cyrus Canyon OHV track is a great opportunity for family outings, race practice or even an organized race. It is open for use by All Terrain Vehicles, Quads and motorcycles. The one-mile track offers a variety of challenges, for the more experienced rider. A small flat area adjacent to the parking lot provides a safe place for beginners. A valid California green sticker is required on all off-road vehicles operating on all public lands. Approved safety helmets must also be worn by all riders.

The next Cyrus Canyon Partners meeting will be Thursday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m., at the Kernville Ranger Station. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.
