CALM to celebrate 25th birthday

CALM (California Living Museum) is hosting its 25th Birthday Bash from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday May 17. The popular zoo, botanical garden and natural history museum, located between Lake Ming and Hart Park in northeast Bakersfield, will be honoring its major founders, frequent guests and new visitors with a line-up of entertaining presentations, games and surprises. Regular admission fees apply.¬Ý

A favorite visiting attraction, Steve Martin’s Working Wildlife ’Äî featuring animal actors that have appeared in movies, television and commercials ’Äî will be spotlighted in the amphitheater at noon. Based in Frazier Park, Working Wildlife has an extensive educational outreach program.¬ÝVisitors will also be treated to docents and the zoo education department presentations with CALM’s own ambassador animals, rides on the Central Valley Children’s Railroad for only $1, a bounce house, costumed characters, face painting, children’s crafts, games, food and beverage booths and an opportunity drawing for great prizes.¬Ý

Robotic pal, Buddy, will be helping the Bakersfield Police Department with its K-9 demonstrations. Smokey Bear has found time to make a special appearance. The Bakersfield Jam’s Swish, California Highway Patrol’s Chipper and California State University, Bakersfield’s Rowdy also plan to be there.
