Last week's party at the Lake Isabella Senior Center has been a long time in the planning; 25 years to be precise. The center hosted the well planned celebration that focused on a quarter century of serving the seniors of our community.  The center itself was decorated in a festive manner fitting the occasion, complete with tables adorned with balloons, chocolates, and champagne glasses for toasting. The celebratory menu, served by the youth of Mountain View Church, also added greatly to the event.

A 150 plus crowd was on hand to acknowledge not only 25 years of dedicated service by staff and volunteers, but also to recognize the many seniors who have participated in the nutrition program over the years. Three special guests, who had been with the program since the doors first opened back in 1983, were in attendance. Bonnie Adair, Maxine Vance and Harry Burch were recognized by Program Coordinator, Donna Ianotti for their faithful attendance and assistance over the past 25 years.

A crowd of more than 150 people turned out to celebrate the Lake Isabella Senior Center's Golden Anniversary on Aug. 1

Ianotti welcomed guests to the anniversary celebration and introduced the various dignitaries who were present. Chris Grasty, the Director of Aging and Adult Services also addressed the guests. She took advantage of the opportunity to thank all of the volunteers, community partners, and county employees who have helped to make the program so successful over the past two and a half decades. Lito Morillo, Program Director spoke of the uniqueness of the Lake Isabella Senior Center and the welcoming attitude of the staff and attendees. He also noted that our center is the one most utilized by its community in all of Kern County. He added, “The center has truly become the heart of the valley, one where the majority of important functions and meetings take place.”

A special videotaped message from Senator Roy Ashburn was greatly appreciated by the attendees, especially those he mentioned personally and thanked for their involvement with the program over the years. Vince Fong, Assistant to Congressman Kevin McCarthy, was on hand to extend the Congressman's best wishes. Judy Hyatt was also in attendance to offer congratulations on behalf of Supervisor Jon McQuiston and to present certificates of recognition to numerous individuals.

Without a doubt, the event was enjoyed by all who attended. But even more importantly than the kind words, good food and door prizes, everyone went away feeling that they too, had played an integral part in making the past 25 years a success. Here's to next 25!
