Porterville, Calif. – Starting in September, 2008, the Sequoia National Forest will change the recreation fees at three lakeshore recreation sites at Lake Isabella; Auxiliary Dam, Old Isabella Road, and the South Fork Recreation Area (see map below). These recreation sites are located in the 120-acre Lake Isabella high impact recreation area (HIRA) near Auxillary Dam.

In order to accommodate visitors to the area, they can soon purchase the Southern Sierra Pass (Annual or Daily) when visiting at the sites. The Southern Sierra Pass can be purchased from Forest Service Offices, or from local vendors.

The changes for the area include: Fees are required year round. The Daily Southern Sierra Pass, which include all three sites is $10/per vehicle. The Annual Southern Sierra Pass is $50/year. One additional vehicle pass will be available for $10 with the purchase of the Annual pass. The Dump Station fee will be $10/per use.

Interagency passes that will also be accepted in the area include the America the Beautiful Interagency Pass, the Senior Pass, the Access Pass, the Golden Age, and the Golden Access.

" I am appalled. You are hurting the locals & valley. Bad enough when you charged for dirt;no trees, tables, fire pit, marked spaces. Now charge more for the same spot of dirt? I pay the same for a small area, my "neighbors" take a huge area. This is a joke, no trees, tables still.Barely water. What are we getting for our money? My money won't be in the valley. My rv storage will thank you for losing me as will the stores, gas stations, restuarants. You are running off tourists.Deliberately. Congratulations!Carol Donnelly "

I have come up to the lake many times in the passed on big weekends and the shore is full of locals that will move a trailer down and leave for two weeks of more just to get the spot. Like I said its no big deal. They have know one the collect of enforce unless its a big weekend. "

" Now we have to pay $45 for a 'lake' pass to put a jetski on the lake PLUS a $50 annual pass to get near the lake.

    $95 ?!

    WOW! "

" I can safely say that I will avoid any area in which a fee is imposed. Won't be too hard anyway as the Incredible Shrinking Lake continues and recreation opportunities more and more dry up - literally. It is a shame what is happening to the Kern River Valley. When I first purchased my place in 2000, this was such a fun and wonderful place. It seems to have lost something the past few years. I do plan to put my place on the market soon. Any buyers? "
