Special to the Sun
After the Labor Day Weekend it will be time to turn your attention to Kern Valley High School sports.
The Labor Day holiday usually means that the start of the seasons are right around the corner.

The varsity volleyball squad will begin it’s season with a tournament on Friday and Saturday at South High School in Bakersfield.
The volleyball and cross country teams began practice on Aug. 18 to prepare themselves for the year.
The tennis team is rounding into shape and will begin their season on Sept. 11 at McFarland, while the cross country squad begins its season with the Monache Invitational on Sept. 11.
In the coming weeks previews of the teams will be detailed here in the Kern Valley Sun. In this way you as fans of high school sports can get a first look at the players and the coaches.
As you can see by the story on the lower right of the page, the junior varsity volleyball team is eager to get their season underway.
In next weeks issue the varsity and junior varsity football teams will be previewed along with the varsity volleyball squad.
The following week it will be time for the cross country and girls tennis previews.
Of course the spotlight is on high school sports, but it is also time for the volleyball teams of the middle schools to get their season underway also.
Youth football and cheerleading are heading straight into their season, while AYSO Soccer is right behind with their season full of kicks.
The fall or autumn for others is the start of the year when it comes to high school and middle school sports and what follows is a year filled with exciting team stories and individual achievements.
Personally for me it is a time that all things start over and a new hope for each of the sports brings the possible league championship and a hopefully a chance to go far in the CIF playoffs.
Whatever the action the teams are filled with eagerness to begin and get that first contest under their belt to make all the practices leading up to it worth it.
Not only the players are excited about the season, but all those that are in the coaching ranks are looking forward to the beginning of the games.
This hard work by the players and the coaches might not result in a lot of winning, but just the preparation and the hope of winning keeps all those involved feeling pretty good about themselves.
So if you find yourself with nothing to do, look at the schedules for each team and then go out and support them.
Oh yeah, for me on the other hand it just means that much more work, but then again this is my fun job so I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.
Go teams and good luck!
