What would Homecoming be without the Primo Chicken? In years past the landmark chicken has found itself in many obscure places on the Kern Valley High School campus. This year it stood proudly underneath the scoreboard and inspired the jayvee and varsity teams to victory at Friday night’s Homecoming game against Vasquez High School from Acton.

Town Hall meeting slated for Oct. 14

The Lake Isabella/Bodfish Property Owners Association is hosting a Town Hall meeting on “Drugs and the Law.” The event, hosted by Kern County Sheriff Lt. Rodriguez, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 6:00 p.m at the Senior Center in Lake Isabella. Representatives from the USFS, the District Attorney’s Office, Kern County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kern River Valley Sheriff’s Substation will be on hand to share valuable information. All Kern River Valley residents are invited to attend. Question and answer period will follow. For more information, contact Carol Rutledge at 379-5552.

REPORT OF COLLISION: On 10-4-08 at approximately 11:00 a.m. Richard Rooney, 69, of Kernville, was stopped in his vehicle in the westbound lane of Hwy. 155, waiting to make a left turn into Juniper Highlands, on Oakwood Dr., Wofford Heights, when Lara Burns, 22, of Bodfish, approached Rooney from the rear at a high rate of speed. Burns was unable to stop her 1990 Honda Accord and collided into the rear of Rooney’s 2008 Chevy HHR, pushing it into the eastbound lane of Hwy. 155 into the path of Michael Gray, 39, of Simi Valley, Calif. Gray attempted to swerve right but was unable to avoid colliding into the front of Rooney. Burns was transported to Kern Medical Center with head trauma and pain to her right knee. Rooney was transported to Kern Valley Hospital for a large abrasion to his right knee. No arrests were made.
