Senior Broncs rally for 27-24 victory

The senior Broncos evened its record to 1-1 with a thrilling come from behind victory over Apple Valley last Saturday.

AV scored on the first play from scrimmage to go up 6-0 on the Broncos.

An interception by Evan Moore gave momentum to the Broncos. Corey Mixon scored on a 10 yard run to even the score at 6-6 going into halftime.

AV scored on an interception to go up 12-6. Matt Reilly broke a 53 yard scamper on the next play to tie the game and go ahead on the PAT 13-12.

AV answered and took a lead of 24-13 in the fourth quarter. The offense would not be denied. Reilly would score on two runs of 55 and 22 yards with Moore kicking a 2-point PAT for the final score of 27-24.

Reilly would run for 237 yards on 19 carries and three TDs. Mixon had 51 rushing yards on four carries and one touchdown. He also had three catches for 23 yards. Cody Little had 25 yards on three carries and seven yards on one catch. Moore finished with 44 yards on 6-of-12 passing with three interceptions. Logan Kraus-Smith led defense with seven tackles. Chase had six; Reilly (4), Whisler (3), Mixon (3) and two fumble recoveries, Aaron Wright (2), Moore (1), and Little (1).

Junior Mustangs 27

The junior team is playing 8-man football this year with only 12 boys on the roster. The Final score 27-0 Kern Valley win over Antelope Valley..

The Mustangs totaled 172 rushing yards. John Luke Smith ran for 125 yards, Tyer Morta 20 yards, Quinn Bohn one yard, Bryce Presswood 26 yards. The juniors had 17 passing yards. Quinn Bohn threw for 17 yards.

Scoring: Smith with two touchdowns and Three PATs, Tyler Morta scored two touchdowns. Tackles: Tanner Whisler (1), Tyler Morta (6), Brennan Medley (7), Bohn (2), Smith (3), Zachary Heffner (2), Ty Hurley (2), Tristin Hernandez (7), Peter (PJ) Simunovich (1), Weston Williams (3). Quarterback sacks: Tristin Hernandez (1), Weston Williams (1), Quinn Bohn (1). Interceptions: Smith (1), Heffner (1), Morta (1).

Antelope Valley 6

Freshman Ponies 0

The entire game was a defensive battle and the Ponies came up on the short end 6-0 for their first loss of the season.

Late in the second quarter Apple Valley had fourth and goal on the 5-yard line, and the Ponies defensive stopped the Knights when Chase Mullin made a touchdown saving tackle on the 1-yard line. The first half ended with no score.

The second half was much the same, except that Apple Valley broke loose for a 26 yard TD run late in the third quarter to take a 6-0 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter the Ponies had one last chance with the ball all on the Apple Valley 30-yard line with two minutes to go, but the Knights stopped the Ponies.

The leading rushers for the Ponies were Austin Hurley with 13 carries for 42 yards. Keaton Kissack followed with 12 carries for 10 yards.

Leading tacklers for the game were Hurley (8) Kissack (7), Jost (6), Conrad Miller and Chase Mullen (4), Bohn and Stamps each had (3). Ritchison, Robert Mental, Blake Lanterman and Riley finished with (2) each. Lanterman also recovered a Knights fumble.
