Kern Valley finishes second in consolation bracket

Playing in the Mojave Tournament, the Lady Broncs got off to a slow start and then couldn’t finish in the consolation bracket losing to Vasquez.
They began pool play by losing to Taft 8-25 and 11-25. They would gain a split versus Born winning game one 25-17, but fell 20-25 in the second.
Taking on Desert, Kern Valley loss both games decidedly 4-25 and 7-25.
They finished pool play by losing to Vasquez 18-25 and 14-25 putting them in fifth place in pool play.
It was off to the consolation bracket where they took on Mammoth.
The Lady Broncs won both games 25-22 and 25-18 to advance to the consolation finals.
Once again taking on Vasquez, Kern Valley won the first game 25-18, but lost the second 17-25.
Vasquez was able to win the third set 6-25 to claim the consolation finals.
For the tournament, Kayla Bennett led the Lady Broncs in kills with 15. Jessica Tyack finished with 14 kills, while Holly Largent had five kills.
At the net, Tyack led the team with 10 blocks followed by Denise Green with three blocks.
Megan Andrews and Green were credited with 10 digs apiece, while Tyack had eight.
Kelsie Robinson was the team leader in assists with 19. Corinn Bedard recorded 10 assists.
On Sept. 16 the Lady Broncs took on Desert Christian in an away match.
Kern Valley managed to win the third game 16-25 but were defeated in games one (16-25), two (14-25) and four (16-25).
Largent led the team in kills with three. Tyack, Bennett and Shayne Villa each had two kills.
Tyack and Largent recorded two blocks apiece, while Bennett had 11 digs. Green finished with 10 digs, while Robinson had four assists in the match.
The following day the Lady Broncs traveled to Ridgecrest to take on the Lady Burros of Burroughs.
They could never get close as they dropped all three games in losing the match to Burroughs 17-25, 13-25 and 14-25.
Bennett, Tyack and Largent each had two kills to lead the team. Largent was credited with two blocks, while Bennett had 12 digs. Robinson had four assists and Kylie Onstott was credited with three serving aces in the match.
Head Coach Elizabeth Miller stated, ““Our biggest team accomplishments this week were beating Desert Christian in Game three on (9/16) and beating Vasquez in game one in the Mojave tournament play on (9/20). The team came together and played for every point and had fun working with each other. Our varsity squad still has a lot of work in order to get ready for league play. However, these wins indicate that they have the capability to be successful if they put their minds to it.” |
