It wasn’t a very good way to end the non-league portion of the schedule for the Lady Broncs tennis team.

They traveled to Shafter and Burroughs on consecutive days and came home defeated in both matches.

They would lose to Shafter on Sept. 24 by the score of 8-1 and then the following day drop the match to Burroughs 15-3.

In the Shafter match, Christina Brown was the lone winner as she picked up a singles victory 8-2.

In other singles action, Brianna Jones fell 1-8, Kayla Nevius and Bethany Stanton each lost 4-8, Chelsea Cormack fell 6-8 and Kristie Edwards lost her set 2-8. In doubles play, the team of Brown and Nevius lost their set 7-9, while the team of Cormack and Haley Riise lost 5-8. The team of Sara Fraser and Ashley Hampton lost 6-8.

“We played the South Sequoia League format. but instead of playing the best of three sets we played a pro set (which is just one set to eight). I definitely saw improvement today. I am confident that we will continue to improve as we play more matches, said head coach Brian Christianson.

The following day it was a trip to Ridgecrest to take on Burroughs. The Lady Broncs were able to get three team points as they got team points in a pair of doubles sets and one in singles.

Jones was the lone singles winner as she took one of her three sets 6-3.

The doubles team of Brown and Nevius won one set 6-1, while the team of Fraser and Hampton won a set 6-3.

In other singles play, Jones lost 0-6 and 5-7, while Stanton lost 1-6, 0-6 and 2-6. Edwards lost all three sets by the scores of 1-6, 0-6 and 1-6.

In doubles action, the team of Brown and Nevius lost 2-6 and 1-6, while Fraser and Hampton lost 0-6 and 1-6. Riise and Cormack lost all three of their sets 5-7, 1-6 and 3-6.

Commenting on the match, Christianson said, “We are playing good at times, but we need to become more consistent. We also need to become mentaly stronger.”
