The tournament for the Kern Valley Women’s Golf Club championship was held on Sept. 8-9 and was won by Wendy (Breezy) Snodgrass.

Maria Black came in first for low net, while Marla Melgren finished in second for low net.

• On Sept. 16-17, eight ladies from the Kern Valley club traveled to Bishop to compete in a two-day women’s invitational golf tournament. There were 90 participants from all over California and Nevada.

Those that competed were Lori Wright, Sally Villars, Colleen Dean, Judy Lacerda, Merilyn Caler, Carolyn Watters, Maria Black and Marla Melgren.

Awards went to the following ladies: Melgren-second low net in the first flight, Black second low net in the second flight, Watters fourth in low gross in the second flight, Caler third low net in the second flight, Lacerda fourth low gross in the third flight and Dean third low gross in the third flight.

The longest drive of the day, besides those road miles to Bishop, was Lacerda in the third flight.

The Kern Valley ladies had plenty of support at the tournament as their husbands went and camped next to the golf course. Also Stevie Luckett, unable to play due to an injury was one of the best supporters according to Melgren. Making the trip to help support the ladies were Walden and Ruby Webb.
