On Saturday Sept. 13, the Woodrow Wallace Lady Colts eighth grade volleyball squad traveled to Frazier Mountain to play in the fourth annual El Tejon volleyball invitational.

The Lady Colts jumped out to a seven point lead against El Tejon, however El Tejon quickly took the game over while the Lady Colts struggled with positions and coverage.

The eighth grade Lady Colts of Wallace proudly display their third place trophy won in the El Tejon Volleyball Tournament.

The next game was against RBG ( Rio Bravo Greeley) the Lady Colts were playing much better in this game and were able to execute the bump, set and spike many times. They played very competitively and both sets were close, but it was RBG who ended up winning the game 15-12.

In the third game against Lincoln (Taft) everything started coming together for the Lady Colts. They were very focused and working together as a team.

The Colts won the first set 15-12 and the second set 15-13 to take the win. They went on to beat Beardsley two more games to bring home the third place trophy.

Jessica Yasin was the leading server with 36 serves. Bekah Borthick was the leading setter with 16 sets. Kacie Kissack and Tori kept the ball in play with 33 and 34 bumps. Digs: Bekah 4, Yasin 3, and Kissack 2. Kills: Bekah 4, Kailey 2 Karly 1.

Coach Maxwell said, “I was very proud of the team. The Colts have started out with a challenging season. With construction the team has no gym to practice in. The tournament was the first time the team had been on a court this season. They were able to adjust quickly and play some really good volleyball.”
