Broncos win in OT 12-6

Kern Valley improved to 3-1 on the season with an exciting 12-6 overtime victory over the Mammoth Huskies in Mammoth.

KV sputtered with twofumbles in the first half while Mammoth scored on a 20 yard run to go up 6-0. A blocked punt by Evan Moore nearly tied the score but ended on the two yard line.

A botched punt by Mammoth recovered by Matt Reilly gave the Broncos their first break of the game late in the third with Moore scoring on a quarterback sneak. The score was tied 6-6.

Kern Valley’s defense kept Mammoth completely bottled up in the second half sending the game into overtime.

On the Broncos first possession on 4th-and-8, Moore rolled out on a bootleg and out-sprinted the defense to the corner for the go ahead TD, 12-6. The PAT was no good. The defense was solid and held Mammoth scoreless in four plays to end the game.

Matt Reilly had 55 yards on 11 carries. Corey Mixon had 42 yards on 12 carries and one reception for 15 yards. Cody Little one catch for eight yards and a 25 yard touchdown that was called back on a penalty. Jordan Lacher had 24 yards on five carries and one catch for 15 yards. Alex Hurley had one reception for 13 yards. Moore finished the night with two carries for 10 yards and two TDs. He was 4-of-6 passing for 51 yards and one pick.

Stephen Whisler led the defense with seven tackles. Reilly and Lacher each had six tackles and a fumble recovery. Recording five tackles each were Logan Kraus-Smith, Christian Mejia, Mixon, and Little. Hurley and Moore both had four. Johnny Chase had two. Also contributing were Bryce Rylie, Tyler Mullins, Zach, David Powell, and Peyton Wyly.

Sophomore Colts 19

Mammoth Huskies 7

The Kern Valley Sophomore Colts traveled to Mammoth to face off with the Huskies. Without a win under there belt this season the Colts were determined to come out on top. It was a well played game by both team with the Kern Valley Colts winning 19-7.

The offense was led by M. Mack with 123 yard on six carries, Onstott with 34 yards on three carries, S. Hawk with 28 yards on three carries and A. Mack with 19 yards on three carries. S. Hawk connected with A. Mack for two passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense was led by Reiswig with 10 tackles, M. Mack 6, S.Hawk 7, A. Mack 5, B. Smith 4, Harbuck and Payne with 3, Wagner and Adams with 3 and both with a fumble recovery, Pearman and Onstott with 2 and Harbuck with 1. Both coaches Jason Williams and Casey Harbuck were proud of the way that the Colts played this weekend. Now with their first win of the season the Colts will host Rim of the World at home next Saturday.

Mammoth Huskies 42

Junior Mustangs 20

The Kern Valley Junior team fought hard against the Mammoth Huskies on Mammoth’s home turf.

At half time Mammoth had 20 points on the board to Kern Valley’s 0.

In the second half Kern Valley came back strong scoring 20 points but they just couldn’t hold Mammoth off. Kern Valley lost the game 20 to 42. Mammoth ran for 267 yards but Kern Valley held their own and rushed for 258 yards.

Some last minute changes came when the first string quarterback Zack Heffner injured his throwing hand in the last 45 minutes of the practice prior to the game.

Quinn Bohn stepped up and performed as quarter back with 11 passes, fourcompletions for a total of 48 passing yards.

Tyler Morta led the running with 180 yards and two touchdown runs. John Luke Smith ran for 46 yards with one touchdown and two PATs.

Smith led in tackles with eight followed by Tyler Morta and Heffner with five each, Tristin Hernandez had four, Quinn Bohn three, Brennan Medley two and Tanner Whisler, Ty Hurley, and Weston Williams each had one.

Freshman Ponies 25

Mammoth Huskies 0

The Kern Valley Ponies traveled to Mammoth to take on the Mammoth Huskies on Saturday. The Ponies came away with a 25-0 win, improving their overall record to 3-1.

The Ponies defense once again led the charge with their third shutout performance of the year. The Ponies have allowed a total of six points through the first four games. Defensively the Ponies are anchored in the trenches by Darrell Riley, Quaid Bohn, Blake Lanterman, Cameron Stamps, Colby Ritchison and Charles Gholson.

The Ponies, Austin Hurley went off left tackle from 12 yards out to put the Ponies on the scoreboard. Keaton Kissack ran the extra point in to put the Ponies up 7-0.

With 52 seconds remaining in the first half Zach Bushling took the handoff and scampered 21 yards to increase the lead to 13-0 to end the half.

Bushling also added to his totals with a 53 yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Kern Valley’s final score came on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Keaton Kissack to Bushling.

The Ponies will play at home Saturday against Rim of the World in what is expected to be a very tough non-league battle. The Ponies will play at 10 a.m.
