Kern Valley AYSO U-19 girl’s team Nike (Goddess of Victory) sponsored by Bob's Marine and Small Engine Repair played host to Liberty Park's Random Blue.

Nike began the match with an offensive push, as Brittany Baker made a run down the side line. Taking a shot, Britany B delivered the ball directly to the keeper, and into the net. Unfortunately, minutes later the opposition beat the defense to even the score 1-1. Random Blue repeated their previous feat, with the ball once more reaching the back off the goal.

Jaimie O, as the keeper came out, took a shot, evening out the score 2-2. Seconds later the opposition crossed the ball in front of Nike’s net, with one of their players getting a head on the ball and resulting in a score of 2-3. The opponents continuously pressed hard, beating in another goal, minutes later.

As Blue, returned to Nike’s defensive half, the ball was cleared out the end line, allowing Random Blue a corner kick. The cross came in three yards out, permitting a rival to get a foot on the ball before delivering it into the goal.

Nike coming back fierce, worked to even the score. Sarah B stole the ball from a challenger before delivering it down the left wing to Valerie C, who proceeded to smash the ball into the back of the opposition’s net.

Minutes later Jaimie passed a ball into the box for Valerie who came onto it hard, driving it once more across the goal line. This left the halftime score at 4-5 with Nike down by just one.

The second half got under way with both teams fighting for possession. Random Blue was awarded a penalty kick. Vivian stopped initial kick but was unable to deflect the follow-up.

As the game continued, Random Blue managed two more scoring successes, leaving the final score at 4-8.

• On Oct. 4, Kern Valley AYSO U-19 Girls team, Nike traveled to Tehachapi to compete against their U-19 girls team.

Despite the chilly temperatures, Nike came out hard, completing numerous passes around the opposition. Jaimie Olle controlled the ball near the penalty mark, before slotting it between the keeper’s legs for the first score of the game.

Valerie Cormack managed to get her body in front of the clear, trapping the ball and then passing to Jaimie. Jaimie received the pass and managed to drive it into the back of the net.

As the game continued with a kick off, Stephanie intercepted a pass by the challengers, and dribbled up the side line. She lofted the ball over the keeper’s head, giving Nike a 3-0 lead.

Tehachapi came back fierce. An offensive player managed to get clear of Kern Valley’s defense, creating a break away opportunity. Vivian, though, failed to make the save. This resulted in a halftime score of 3-1 in favor of Nike.

As play resumed in the second half, Jaimie found the ball and launched the ball over the keeper’s head.

Jaimie received the ball out wide and worked to cross it into the middle of the penalty box. Instead the ball continued traveling and with no one in its path, curved into the net.

Seconds later Valerie found herself face to face with the keeper and with ball at foot knocked the ball to the side of the keeper resulting in a goal. Denise Green controlled the ball near the half line. Using fancy footwork she took an amazing shot from 20 yards out. This left the score at 6-1 in favor of Nike.

Tehachapi, denying Kern Valley any break made a long cross in Nike’s defensive half. The cross was pounded into the back of our net resulting in a final score of 7-2.
