On the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 12, Tricia Lyn Turner, 21, of Onyx, was driving eastbound on Hwy. 178 just west of Borel Road in the #2 lane at approximately 60-65 mph, when the tread on her left rear tire came off. This caused her to lose control of her 1999 Honda CRV, which overturned down the eastbound embankment. Turner sustained moderate injuries and complained of pain to her chest and was airlifted to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield by Hall Air Ambulance. Her passenger, Brandon Aguirre, 21, also of Onyx, suffered facial lacerations, but refused medical attention. Both parties were wearing seatbelts, according to the CHP.
