Do you like competing with your neighbors to see who can produce the best lighting display each year? Why not take it one step further and enter the Kern Valley Sun 2008 Christmas Lighting contest. The competition is valley wide.

The Kern Valley Sun is looking for entries, and it’s FREE. The deadline for receiving entries is Wednesday Dec. 17. Judging will take place on Friday Dec. 19, between dark and 9 p.m. (Your lights must be on during that period of time to be judged.)

The Woodward family home on Pine Drive in Kernville took top honors in last year’s Christmas Lighting Contest.

Residential and commercial entries will be judged separately, in three categories: Quantity, Creativity and Motion/Animation. Judging is grouped by geographic area as well: Lake Isabella/Bodfish, Kernville/Wofford Heights and Mt Mesa/Squirrel Valley/Weldon/Onyx).

Winners’ names, along their winning display location and display photo, will be published as room and photo clarity permits, in the Dec. 24th issue of the Sun.

The first place winner from each area of the valley will be asked to be rejudged, thus allowing for an overall winning line-up of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

First place overall winner will receive a $50 gift certificate and three boxes (70 count) LED lights, while 2nd and 3rd places will receive three boxes of (70 count) LED lights.

Entry forms are available at the Kern Valley Sun office or can be clipped from the newspaper starting with the Nov. 26 issue.

Join in the fun and light Santa’s way to your roof top.
