No treat for Broncs on Halloween, lose 35 - 13

Bishop came dressed as a football team and the Broncs handed out the candy in Friday’s halloween match up.

The Broncs offense struggled, while Bishop rolled to the 35-13 win.

The Broncos of Bishop scored twice in the first quarter and twice in the second to open a huge 28-0 margin at the half.

Twice Bishop threw for scores and ran for two more in jumping out to the big lead. The Broncs on the other hand were completely shut down.

After forcing Kern Valley to punt on their opening possession, the Broncos returned it the Broncs seven yard line to begin the scoring.

Three plays and a penalty later it was a 7-0 on a 10-yard scoring toss.

Their second score came on a 12-play drive staring on their own 41. A one yard plunge put the Broncs down 14-0.

Bishop kept up the pace as they scored on a 66-yard pass play and a one yard run to make the half time score of 28-0.

In the second half, Kern Valley finally was able to move the ball on offense as they would score twice.

Warren Pappas hauled in a Kyler Emery pass of 36 yards for Kern Valley first points of the game.

Bishop would answer as they scored their final touchdown on a 75-yard scamper into the end zone.

The Broncs final score came late in the game as Emery scored from eight yards out to give them 13.

On the night, the Broncs managed just 148 total yards. They rushed for 65 and threw for 83.

in th e first half, the Broncs had six possession and only 22 plays. They punted five times and were picked off once.

Tyler Gibson was the leading rusher for Kern Valley with 46 yards on nine carries, while Emery gained 19 yards on 13 touches.

Emery went 9-of-19 passing for the 83 yards and one interception.

Pappas had two catches for 47 yards and the touchdown, while Mark Eisenhauer hauled in two passes for 14 yards. Ethan Kennedy caught two for 12 yards, while Tommy Register had one catch for five yards.

Ronnie Grannan had one catch for three yards, while David Heitman had one catch for two yards.

Defensively, the Broncs were led by Kevin Rendon with 18 tackles, including three unassisted.

Scott Winslow collected eight tackles, including two sacks, while Pappas had eight tackles.

Gibson collected seven tackles, while Danny Gudino and Heitman each had six tackles. Steven Powell recorded five tackles, including a sack, while Bo Hurley and Mark Driskell each were credited with five tackles.

Kennedy had four tackless, while Eisenhauer, and Matt Henderson each had three tackles. Kyler Robinson had two tackles, while Eli Kamisher, Tyler Kaplan, Colton Hurley, Grannan, Emery and Derec Chumly each had one tackle.

Commenting on the game, head coach Ben Goffinet said, “In out league you have to show up to play in order to win. Unfortunately, poor execution and effort cost us the game. I truly believe we are a better football team than the way we played. At some point though, we have to stop making excuses and just get it done.”

The Broncs travel to Rosamond this Friday where they hope to climb back into the CIF playoff hunt with a victory. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
