Kern Valley loses twice

The Lady Broncs ended their regular season by dropping a pair of matches to Mammoth and Bishop.

On Oct. 28, the Lady broncs squared off against Mammoth at home and fell 12-6.

Kayla Nevius of the Lady Broncs returns a shot in doubles competition in a recent home match. Nevius and her partner, Christina Brown are 16-2 on the season in doubles play in the High Desert League.

The six team points were all earned by the doubles teams.

Christina Brown and Kayla Nevius swept their three sets 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1 for three team points.

The team of Sara Fraser and Ashley Hampton won two sets 6-3 and 6-0, while team of Haley Riise and Chelsea Cormack won one set 6-0.

Mammoth won all nine of the singles sets in taking a 9-0 lead.

In the match at home against Bishop on Oct. 30, Kern Valley lost 13-5.

Nevius and Brown won two sets to improve to 16-2 on the year in league play.

The team of Riise/ Cormack won 7-5 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) and the team of Fraser/Hampton won one set 7-6 (7-3 in the tiebreaker).

The lone singles team point came from Bethany Stanton who was a 6-4 winner.

Head coach Brian Christianson said, “It is nice to see the improvement that the girls made throughout the season. We were competitive against the league champions in a number of matches throughout the day.”

Next up for the Lady Broncs is CIF qualifying tomorrow in Bishop.
