Community bids farewell to beloved friend

Pallbearers, left to right, Bob Mince, Tom Evans, Louie Andreas (behind KV floral spray) and Jimmy Andreas prepare for the final goodbye to their friend and co-worker Denny Knight, who died suddenly Oct. 19 from an apparent heart attack. Denny Knight’s casket was escorted on a horse-drawn caisson to its final resting place in the Old Kern River Valley Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. Sierra Mortuary reported it had been more than 40 years since a funeral procession of this type had been permitted in the valley.

Bust yields 10 grams of meth, two suspects

Deputies from the Kern Valley Sheriff’s Substation made a routine traffic stop early Sunday morning and determined the driver, Billy Largent, 52, of Lake Isabella, to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drug paraphernalia.
