McCarthy appointed to House leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, Dec. 1, Congressman Kevin McCarthy was named by Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) to serve as the Chief Deputy Republican Whip, the highest appointed Republican leadership position in the House of Representatives. "Being entrusted by my friend Republican Whip Eric Cantor to serve in the House Republican Leadership as Chief Deputy Whip is an enormous honor,” McCarthy said. “I am ready to get to work right away to help create a foundation of new and fresh ideas using our Central California values to solve America's pressing challenges. We know Americans are not interested in rhetoric and division, but common-sense solutions and action. We will revitalize our outreach efforts through cutting edge technology. We will help be part of the solution to turn the page to a new era of Republican leadership. I am proud to begin this mission on the innovative path to a better future."

FedEx driver escapes serious injury
An unidentified FedEx driver escaped serious injury when for unknown reasons his van left the roadway in the lower Kern Canyon Friday afternoon. His vehicle rolled numerous times before coming to rest on the rocks below.

Eight residents banned for violating fire rules
GOLETA, CA - Eight Santa Barbara County residents have been banned from all National Forests for a period of one year after pleading guilty in Federal Court to violating fire restrictions in Los Padres National Forest, the Forest Service announced today. The eight also received fines ranging from $200 to $300 during their Nov. 21 court appearance in Santa Barbara.

Bust yields 10 grams of meth, two suspects
Deputies from the Kern Valley Sheriff’s Substation made a routine traffic stop early Sunday morning and determined the driver, Billy Largent, 52, of Lake Isabella, to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drug paraphernalia.
