If there’s anything that’s guaranteed to put you in a festive mood for the holidays, it’s liable to entail good food, good company and a visit from a well known gentleman dressed in red. The Dec. 11 meeting of the Kern Valley Healthcare District Auxiliary, held at the Elk’s Lodge in Wofford Heights, had all that and more.

The luncheon began with President Alicia Audette blowing a whistle instead of wielding her by now familiar baseball bat. As she brought the packed house to order, it was time to take care of some routine business. One of the highlights of the get-together was the presentation of a plaque to Jeanette Rogers, KVHD Community Liaison, for all that she has done for the Auxiliary over the years. Rogers, dressed entirely in red for the occasion, was shocked to find herself on the receiving end of an award stating, “I am absolutely stunned that all of these people who do so much for the community would choose to honor me.”

After the buffet lunch was served, it was time for visit from Ole’ St. Nick. Although he invited Auxiliary members to come and sit on his knee and tell him what they were hoping for this Christmas, there were no takers. As a result, Santa had to make do with drawing the raffle tickets.

All in all, the wonderful Christmas luncheon was filled with holiday spirit. It was a well earned reward for those special people known as the Pink Ladies and Blue Guys who give so tirelessly of themselves throughout the year.
