Kern Valley Sun Staff Report

On Sunday, Dec. 14 at approximately 11:00 p.m. a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a house fire in the 7800 block of Easy Street in Onyx. Approximately 16 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, crews were faced with a double wide mobile home fully involved with fire. The first engine crew made an attack on the fire. Arriving crews worked to protect the surrounding buildings and prevent further spread of the fire and assist with extinguishing the burning structure. Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 40 minutes. Their quick actions prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent buildings. One male person received burns trying to extinguish the fire and was transported to a local area hospital.

Firefighters were able to save approximately $20,000.00 of property and contents. However, the fire destroyed an estimated $80,000.00 of property and contents value. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.
