On Jan. 22, the FBI announced that Sheriff Donny Youngblood is one of two chief  law enforcement executives from California, selected to attend the FBI National Executive Institute (NEI). NEI consists of three one-week sessions spread over several months.

The NEI began in 1976 and more than 500 executives have graduated. The three sessions will be held at Quantico, Va., Sydney Australia, and in Pennsylvania.

Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood addresses the crowd at the Sheriff’s Activity League Appreciation Dinner at the Veterans Center on Norris Road Jan. 22.

The main goals are to enhance cooperation and coordination of policing throughout the law enforcement world and to learn from each other and renowned instructors.  To be eligible to attend, you must be the CEO of a law enforcement agency of at least 500 sworn and service a population of at least 250,000.  Nominees must also be nominated by the Special Agent in Charge of the local FBI field office.

Thirty to thirty-five Chief Law Enforcement Executives from around the world will attend NEI this year; five federal, five international and 20-25 United States law enforcement executives will make up the class. The Chief of Police in Sacramento, Calif. is the other California attendee.  All costs are paid by the FBI with no cost to the local agency.
