Members from Icon Aircraft came to Lake Isabella, from their Tehachapi engineering facility, on Wednesday, March 18, to do more flight tests of the Icon A5. The A5 prototype is undergoing a series of tests prior to its going into production. The full-scale prototype of the A5 is scheduled to undergo several test flights over the next few months before the design is completed. After flight testing, a pre-production model will be built to verify all the Federal Aviation Administration standards are met, before entering production in late 2010.

Designers contributing to the ultra-modern design of the Icon A5 have worked for leading automotive manufactures, with the guidance of an engineering team, which include former engineers at Mojave based Scaled Composites, the manufacturer of the Global Flyer, Voyager, and X-Prize winner, SpaceShipOne. The estimated price of the Icon A5 is approximately $139,000.

Test pilot Jon Karkow, of Icon Aircraft, takes the A5 for a series of tests over Isabella Lake on March 18. The A5 prototype is undergoing a series of tests prior to its going into production.
