The attraction of Isabella Lake is the open access and ability to park next to the lakeshore to fish, camp, windsurf or boat. Yet if the proposed Forest Plan is adopted that will no longer be possible, which will devastate the local economy, tourism and way of life. The Sequoia Forest should designate the entire area surrounding the lake for continued motorized access and camping.
I have lived in the Kern River Valley for over 30 years and have three children. My oldest, Johnny, is severely physically handicapped. One of the main activities he can participate in is when we take him in our motorhome or truck down to the edge of the lake to do a little fishing or to just sit and commune with the wonderful natural life that can be seen and heard. This is just about the only thing he can enjoy and he has for most of his life. I believe his rights of life, liberty, and his pursuit of happiness will be significantly impeded if access to Isabella Lake’s shores are denied, and restricted to him. Not only is this a tragedy but should be proved to be illegal.
If we are going to be called a government for the people, by the people, and of the people it is time for the people to stand up and say, “No more!” I, sir, am saying just that!
I can also tell you my two other children make their livings right here in the Kern River Valley. My other son is a Kern County fireman and my daughter is a local business owner who will be significantly impacted if access is restricted around our lake. My husband manages the biggest tackle shop in the Kern River Valley and has for over 20 years, his job would be in jeopardy , hence, our livelihood would be affected. I will do whatever and speak to whomever it takes to fight this proposed action to restrict our access to Isabella Lake.
