Letter crossed the line
Re: Celebrating human sacrifice, Letters 4/15/09

It’s obvious that your newspaper supports and promotes the liberal and homosexual agenda, but this time you have crossed the line. By allowing your editor, Cathy Perfect, to hand-pick this hate-filled letter and publish it, knowing that it would infuriate the Christians in the Kern River Valley. Well, you got your wish. I, for one, am extremely angry and offended, but I am sure that was your intent. If you think this will sell more newspapers, you are sadly mistaken. It will be just the opposite. You must have forgotten the possibility of backlash from the community, or maybe you just don’t care. Whatever the case, you showed no respect for the vast majority of people in this area, and you surely have no shame. Your paper does not have to apologize because it will not be accepted, but we promise you that your newspaper will suffer the consequences.

" Remember how many people were offended by the republican float in the Whiskey Flats day parade? I recall a few screaming free speech over that one as well. Could it be Mr. McDaniel that you only have a problem with something being published that you don't agree with?

I know quite a few Christian people who voted no on Prop8. I don't think it's fair to lump all Christians in with your thinking.

It was just one letter stating one guys opinion. Just like your letter. I applaud the Sun for printing opinions. It can't be easy. "

Welcome to the club of being angry at the media. Try reading some news outside of Kern Valley and maybe you might learn a few things about the world. Seriously though, we got jackets. :) "

" Mac, have the guts to demand the apology you feel is due you; the last sentence of your letter makes me sad. Same goes for 3FQ3r, who’s written to say he won’t be writing anymore. Same with Wise Counselor, who ends post after post with “End of story,” as if the story’s his to end, as if he has the power to shut us up. I’d like to know what damage the Sun has suffered as a result of all this backlash. I have a feeling there’s no story here at all. "

" RE:3FQ3r.When was a poll taken in the KRV to warrent the "almost 99% straight population?" And, paleese...you have to ask why the "other side" gets the attention????Face facts, Gays dress better, look better, dance better and....write better! Really some of the best writing comes from Al and Celia. Think about how much more interesting the paper is when they write? I know many people who jump right to the opinion section as soon as they get the Sun. Face it, we're here, we're queer and we're funny and we're smart.... "

" Maybe homosexuality is getting so much attention because a vocal segment of that heterosexual majority won't shut up about how sinful they think it all is. The sooner you all settle down and realize "the gays" are just regular people at the grocery store, paying their bills and going about their business the sooner they'll stop getting all the attention. "

re:soon. What an egotistical god to insist that every knee bow and every tongue confess. Hmmmm I could really have fun with this but I know what I'm really thinking would not be printed....Anyway, I'm not holding my breath for this mass knee bow, tongue thing.Wow, you sure have some strange beliefs. But hey, you can have them. Just please, please don't force these beliefs on all of us. it's very unattractive. "

" I would give it up, Mac McDaniel, there is a bias here on this forum that you cannot overcome; the Editor is for the other side. I for one will not writing anymore here, why write here and keep their image in front of the public, and in case this publication does not know it, almost 99% of this valley is straight, so why is the other side getting all the attention? "

" Geez, I don't recall writing any words that were filled with "hate" - I do NOT feel hate - it is a useless emotion. What I did was to make a comment about a religious celebration that celebrates the making of a HUMAN sacrifice - the Christian God practiced HUMAN sacrifice and you celebrate it - yes or no? Perhaps you are afraid of questioning your God, but I'm not. Perhaps you are afraid to even love others who may not believe as you do? Someone stated religion is one of the worst inventions of humans - I agree! "

If Christ were handing out report cards, many of you would recieve an F in the catagory"love thy neighbor" and another F for "turn the other cheek"...Really, please follow the example of Christ. The only people he got mad at were pharasees...and those claiming to be "wise".... "

Larger papers tend to disregard letters like yours except when they begin with "I am only nine but here's what I think about such and such . . ." I'm sure the Sun will survive any further backlash you have in store. "

Good luck with your campaign against the Sun, facilitated by the Sun. I think the best response here is the first one, from another ‘Mac’. "

" Oh these "wise" and redneck people are pulling at straws because they have no LOGICAL leg to stand on. The truth is that, as more people get educated, the inappropriate power religion has had for so long is weakening. Good! Religion is fine, IF it makes you a kinder more humble person. But so many people who write this stuff use their religion as justification to be mean, unfair and downright crazy. The Jesus I read about would be angry at those with a "pharisee" attitude. "

Webmaster wrote on Apr 22, 2009 2:41 PM:

" Not so, Big Mac (aka Redneck.) Where have you been sending those "numerous (too many to count) letters" that were "either trashed, or edited for content"? Perhaps the Californian or the Courier, or maybe they were sent anonymously? The Sun prints 99% of letters submitted for publication; that's the purpose of the Opinion Page! Check the information in "Letters Policy" box in the print edition; it's all there in black and white. Lose the "being a tool for the communist and homosexual agenda" argument; it's stale, hackneyed and downright corny. "

celia wrote on Apr 22, 2009 2:39 PM:

" Hey redneck-usually if the paper does not publish something, it's either off topic, personally threatening or just too gramatically incorrect to understand. Everyone has to go by a set of rules. Heck, on occasion I've had a "knee jerk" reaction to some stupid comment and it has not been published. So much for your "adjenda" theory.. And , again, there is a religion artical EVERY week. Does that mean that the Sun has a religious adgenda? And, your letter made it, along with many angry christians letters. So much for the conspiracy theory. We all choose what to read.... "

" We do not have a free and unbiased press. Wierd Al gets published everytime he burps ! We on the other hand have had numerous ( too many to count ) letters either trashed, or edited for content, so publishing several letters and opinions once or twice a year, does not constitute fair and balanced reporting. The KV SUN has become a tool for the Communist and Homosexual agenda. There actions show they have no respect, for the citizens in the Kern River Valley. "

" Wow, the 'christians" in this valley are sure into a double standard. They want their voice to be heard, and it has been heard for decades, but get red with anger as soon as another opinion is voiced. On"easter Sunday" I heard christian music blaring over loud speakers. But I was reasonable and shrugged it off. Why can't "christians" do the same? And every week there is a section devoted to the christian voice in this newspaper. You choose what to read as do I. I don't get angry about the weekly christian voice, how about growing up anc chilling out? "

" You see how a free and open country works? Your letter is published as well. America is a wonderful place, for the most part, and I hope that we always have a free press that allows people a forum to speak their mind. I for one appreciate that the Sun did not choose to censor a point of view from either side. Mr. Steuart was heard and now so have you been. I don't see the problem. "
