Signs of Kern River Valley

Published on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 10:10 PM PDT

I would like to comment on the new signs posted by a local plumber along  the off-ramp into Lake Isabella off of 178 from the east. First why is there so many? I am reminded of signs of the past that advertised a roadside attraction. They were tacky then and they are tacky now! Please do us all a favor and advertise in the paper or on the radio and not along our beautiful landscape. What used to be a gorgeous meadow is now an ugly roadside advertisement.

While I am on the subject of signs I have also noticed speed limit signs have went up on our local side roads. Bodfish Canyon is 40 miles an hour not 55 as most people drive it. Slow down people it will all still be there when you get there. That is why we live up here in the Kern RiverValley, to slow down and enjoy.

My last comment is the graffiti we are seeing more and more of in this beautiful valley. It irritates me to no end. Does anyone know if we have a graffiti removal team up here? I would like to join it.

" Lake Isabella is becoming a dump. And, I have no idea why nothing is being done. "

" I'd rather see a few signs than the 5 broken down cars that are sitting in my neighbors front yard! Or the rusted trailer with broken out windows across the street. Isn't there a city ordinance against that? There are lots of gorgeous meadows to gaze at. "

" A few advertisements posted on private property is hardly offensive. How about all the run down "homes" in our valley, the drug infested neighborhoods, the surplus of drinking establishments, the surplus of cigarette shops, the litter all over, the homeless permanent campers, the drunk drivers, the high drivers, the medicated drivers, the sub-standard internet services... I could go on all day. A few harmless signs posted in a "meadow" are not "tacky". Where is the 40MPH sign? Haven't seen it. Agree about the graffiti, it is frustrating. "
