Do as I say, not as I do

After reading the latest rant from the self-loathing, God hating, people hating local homosexual’s mascot, I can only assume that the publisher and editor of the Kern Valley Sun must share his views and emotions. Why else would you keep printing his repetitious and increasingly hateful tirades?

The Sun has a stated policy not to allow personal attacks. We are periodically admonished by you in your weekly blogs to be kindhearted and do spirituality checks on ourselves, yet the several letters you have printed by this author are hate filled personal attacks upon every person of faith. Not just in this valley, but everywhere. This is a perfect example of “do as I say, not as I do” preaching by the Sun. This man needs help working through his mental problems, not encouragement by irresponsible media. Liberals are constantly harping about leveling the playing field, yet a similar counter-attack upon this person and his homosexual views and lifestyle would no doubt draw indignant fire as “hate speech” from liberals across the valley.

Finally, the symbol of Christ on the cross was never about human sacrifice. It is a reminder of the belief that God put himself on earth in human form and tolerated the most egregious atrocities possible at the hands of his own creation, and did it without ever committing a sin himself. He then found forgiveness for his torturers in the end. The message is that we, as human beings, were issued very strict expectations by our creator, but were also given proof that none of them are beyond our capabilities.

    " I have looked this whole letter over, and I cannot find where it says that Jesus turns into a bunny? Someone is really stretching here to find that thought. Please leave our belief alone, don't you know how sacred it is? "

    " Bill, thank you for that thought out letter. You seem like a very educated man, so perhaps maybe you can explain this to me, if you will;

    When did Jesus become a bunny? "

    " I find no evidence of self-loathing, people hating, or God hating in anything I've read here by Al Steuart. The man has self respect, that's all. Plus he's gay, which seems to be the actual problem. It's you who have made attacks on him in your reply. I feel no personal indignation toward you here; you don't impress me that much. But let me be the first to tell you that, yes, your letter constitutes "hate speech". "

    " I agree wholeheartedly with the viewpoint expressed in the Opinion. However, it greatly disturbs me to read so many viewpoints and comments that tend to be so fanatical, like rabid dogs. It would be a great thing if we could hold our beliefs sacred to ourselves and allow others their beliefs without criticism and hatred. It is not Christ-like to hate and most religious beliefs exonerate tolerance, acceptance and love for humankind, whatever their walk of life or belief.

    Thank you very much. "

    " Mr. S needs to stop his constant whining, however, a personal attack is aimed at an individual, not an insult to an entire group. So while it might offend you, it is not a personal attack "

    " Wow! Where do you go to church, Bill Fulkerson? Well written, eloquent, and well thought out comments on a subject which is very close to the hearts of us here in Kern River Valley who attend church to show our love to our Creator each week. Thank you for expressing our views in such a thorough manner. "
