Christian norms ignored

Published on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 10:10 PM PDT

It has been your choice to print weeks and weeks of letters from Mr. Steuart. This community laughs and just gives the paragraph after paragraph no interest. But now enough is enough!

Last Wednesday’s incoherent ramblings of a mentally ill should never have been printed. He has had thousands of his words printed, but now you have alerted our community to the mean spirited people and their hatred. Who should move and live in other areas where they can do their anti-Jesus Christ blasphemy. Where is the tolerance that he so loves to proclaim he has and accuses the community of not having? The anti-Christ Easter he suggests makes the norm sick to their stomachs.

Congress in 1863 proclaimed this is a Christian country and Abraham Lincoln proclaimed this is a country designed on Christianity. To this day over 80 percent of the population still claims attachment to our Lord. We wear crosses as a full memorial to our Trinity.

You have done what none of the other trash written can do. Permanently insult us and also insult the majority of our community, but most of all our God.

Saul and Lynne McGarity

Kernville

Editor’s note: Mr. Steuart, like all writers of letters to the editor, is restricted to a maximum of two letters in a 30-day period.

" RE: way right "hard times for conservatives and people who have faith"??????????Seems to me the conservatives can blame their own party for "hard times". I don't get what is so hard for people of faith. Has anyone forced you to close your churches? Burned bibles? Oh I can imagine that judging others and having to "fight" to deny equality to everyone is pretty draining. Maybe someone is trying to tell you something--are ou listening? "

" Keep trying Saul and Lynne, because if you do not stand up for what is right, who will? These are very hard times for conservatives and for people who have faith also. We all will continue to pray for a healing in this valley! "

" A word to the wise (counselor): The purpose of this forum is to facilitate public dialogue, express opinions, add something thoughtful to the conversation. It is not the place for venomous, mean-spirited name-calling. Your most recent comment about the Pantry having too many donations will not be posted because it is not truthful. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion and it can be expressed here if done honestly and with a modicum of civility. "

" Why does the Sun print comments as blatantly off-topic as this last one by “Wise Counselor”, or the one that prompted it? Could you at least start italicizing them, or find some other way to set them apart and enable me to skip past them? They make these pages tedious to read. . . . Re the McGarity’s letter: Mr. Steuart did not suggest an alternative Easter. And what poll was it that showed 80% of us “claiming attachment” to your Lord? Sounds like a poll composed with a Thesaurus. "

" Wake up, Saul and Lynne. Christian norms were not "ignored" in Mr. Steuart's letter; they were "examined". If that insults you, look the other way. I applaud the Sun for printing letters that encourage people to think, along with the other letters that demonstrate what happens to the minds of people who don't. "

" To all bloggers: There are rules about letters that EVERYONE needs to follow. If you follow them, your letter is printed,if you don't, it's not. Awhile ago there were some crazy blogs that contained sophomoric name calling and incoherent gibberish and they were removed. Since then, blogs have been screened more closely. That is a good thing for everyone. No one is singled out so get over the false persecution already. "

I offered you the opportunity many times but it seems that when I give you truth and facts, you disappear. Where exactly did your wisdom come from and what kind of a coulselor are you? "

" Are gay whiners and religious wing nuts all there is in this valley? I'm sick of seeing Mr. S and others whining every two weeks or so in the paper about how he was wronged in someway because he is a gay atheist. Shut up already. And all the religious nuts who write every week about Mr. S, or prop8, or whatever and quote jesus, made-up facts, or god. You shut up too, enough of your morals based upon make believe. Write about local issues like the new paint lines on Lake Isabella Blvd. "

" I have noticed this myself...Mr Steuart seems to have a direct line to the opinion page in the Kern Valley Sun. Why is this?..Do the editors find his opinions more edifing then the average citizen of KRV? I don't believe I agree with one thing Mr. Steuart says and if I did I would probably change my opinion, and contrary to the way it sounds I am a card carrying bleeding hearty liberal, I am for single payer health care and all the other liberal causes. Ms Perfect do you think we could hear opinions other than Mr. Steuarts? "

" Celia...keep pushing the idea of advertising (pulling the ads) of the churchs here in this valley, and maybe just maybe they will all quit advertising in it! Are you shocked? Yes, maybe so, you can bet if you accomplish that, the Editor here won't be so quick to print yours and Pegs comments! Are you trying to put them out of business? "

celia wrote on Apr 23, 2009 10:59 AM:

" Wow, the double standard is strong. EVERY SINGLE WEEK there is a religious commentary written in the Sun as well as advertisements for local churches. Just as anyone can choose to read them or not you can choose to read the letters or not.Opinions are just that. BUT prop 8 crossed the line from opinion to civil law and that is wrong! How would you like it if opinions about your church became law? Yes Al and I ,along with millions of others who use their grey matter, are angry about the intrusion of religious belief into our lives. "

" "To this day over 80 percent of the population still claims attachment to our Lord" You are WAY off McGarity! Tell me where this number came from because there are over 200 recognized religions and I know for certain the other 199 have more that 20%! Also, no one insulted your God, merely the way you choose to shove it down our throats as if there was no other religion. "The anti-Christ Easter he suggests makes the norm sick to their stomachs" Didn't make me sick...everyone's entitled to an opinion...that was his, this is yours, eh? "

celia wrote on Apr 22, 2009 9:33 AM:

" Question. Can god really be insulted? Or is it the ego's of his supposed followers that get insulted? This paper devotes a weekly section to religion. That seems to be lost in the craziness of the pharisees of this valley. Also, remember, Native Americans were the origional people of this land....Oh yes, the church introduced these origional people to slave labor, disease, forced adhearance to "christianity" rape, death and destruction etc. If one must go to "our" forfathers, it was FREEDOM of religion not FORCED RELIGION. Either way you slice it, attend the church of choice and chill out! "
