Ray was born June 17, 1940 in Spokane, Wash. to H. Raymond and Irma Ida Mabee. He was raised in Spokane, as well. At the age of 19 he met the love of his life, Fern Elaine Barrett; they married on Aug. 5, 1960 and together they raised three children.

Larry Wilson

Larry Wayne Wilson, 67, passed April 27, 2009. Born May 31, 1941 in Council, Idaho to Wayne and Carrie Wilson. He enjoyed riding in new vehicles, country music, calling bingo and talking with his best friend Jason Ruckman at Cole Vocational Day Program. Larry had a sunny outlook on life. He lived in Chico, Ca before moving to Lake Isabella. His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Carrie Wilson of Lake Isabella, and sisters: Norma Wilson of Bakersfield, Toni Wilson of Weldon, Barbara Pierce and brother‑in‑law Randy Pierce of Redding, Ca. Niece, Jamie Mallory of Bodfish. Nephews, Jessie Balz and wife Carla of Canbrake, Ca, Johnny Mallory of Weldon, Richard Pierce and wife Shawna, Bob Pierce and wife Monette, all of Redding, Ca, and his favorite Aunt Clara Glascock of Nyssa, Oregon.

Morris 'Moe' Pool
Nov. 9, 1926 - May 1, 2009

Morris Pool was born in Malvern, Ark. on Nov. 9, 1926. He passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009. He was born into a large family with 10 children. At the age of 20, he married the love of his life, Willie Stutts, on April 27, 1947, in Yuma, Ariz. They were blessed to enjoy 62 years of marriage together. He spent 21 years as a real estate broker in Yucaipa, Calif. He retired to Lake Isabella in 1981, where he became a member of the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church. His favorite hobbies included fishing, camping, and coaching Little League baseball and youth football. He loved teaching the youth the skills needed to play sports but more importantly the value of true sportsmanship. In fact he received a highly coveted award (The Colonel Parilla award) for being an outstanding role model for the youth of Yucaipa Little League baseball. He was an intelligent yet gentle man and when he spoke people listened.

Betty Jo Stromer, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2009 at her home with family after a short bout with cancer. She will be greatly missed and always in our hearts. Betty Jo was born in Moore, Okla. on Aug. 18, 1929 as Betty Jo Whitson. In 1949 she married Laval Gene Stromer and they lived and raised their three children in the San Fernando area, lived in Arizona for a short time, then called Lake Isabella, Calif. home. Betty is survived by her husband, Laval; and three sons, Loren and his wife Lisa of Kingman, Ariz., Wayne and his wife Val of Sunland, Calif., and Rick and his wife Donna of Merritt Island, Fla.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Judy Tarro
July 22, 1944 – May 7, 2009

Judy passed on after a lifetime struggle with scleroderma. She is the founder of sdworld.org and SD World email list. Through her work she provided steadfast support, good humor, and friendship. Judy thus paved the way for the founding of the nonprofit agency and resulting website, which is now 5,000 pages in 22 languages. Judy continued faithfully volunteering as an ISN Assistance News guide up until a few days before her death. She was a huge presence and leader in the precious online community; her fabulous spirit and her work will always be remembered and cherished. Judy's story of living with scleroderma is featured in the ISN's book, “Voices of Scleroderma”, Volume 3.

Eric Brian “Rick” Erwin, son of Don and Ruth Erwin, of Squirrel Valley at Lake Isabella, was laid to rest May 4 at Greenlawn Southwest in Bakersfield with full military honors. Rick was born July 29, 1959 in Fresno to Donald Erwin and Christa Erwin Lawrence. He went to be with the Lord and his beloved daughter Melanie Renee on April 28, 2009.

Melinda Jean Bue-Montgomery
May 27, 1955 - April 6, 2009

Our Melinda Jean was born in Brookline, Mass., on May 27, 1955 and has lived in California all her life. She received her education in the Garden Grove Unified School system and graduated from San Diego State College in 1977. She later obtained her teaching credential and had been teaching at Kernville Elementary School for the past 20 years. She fell in love with Kernville on her first visit there and has been very happy living in this area. She passed away suddenly in her Kernville home on Monday, April 6, 2009.

She enjoyed bowling, softball, and playing cards, but more than anything else she loved shopping at garage sales and thrift stores.

Rachel Stuart Mills

Rachel Stuart Mills passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 at her home in Bakersfield, Calif. after a short bout with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and slipped away peacefully. Rachel was born June 9, 1927 to Walter Jackson and Josie Stuart in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the youngest of seven children. Rachel and her family moved to California in 1938 where Rachel attended Redondo High School. In 1945, she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Ellis Mills. Ellis and Rachel eloped shortly after meeting and began their family consisting of two boys, Rae and Burt.
