SAL students send cards and letters to families of fallen peace officers

In recognition of Peace Officers Memorial week, Kern River Valley Sheriff Activities League (SAL),in conjunction with SALs from Lamont, Wasco and East Bakersfield, recently wrote letters and made cards to the family and co-workers of the four fallen Oakland Police Officers who were killed by gunfire last month.

Foundation announces grants

The Kern Community Foundation (KCF) announces $130,000 available for Kern Community Response Grants in 2009. The grants will offer core mission support to Kern County nonprofits that provide basic needs, safety net, or intervention services to county residents impacted by the economic downturn. Maximum grant awards will be $20,000.

  • Fuller proposal to streamline nursing education passes Assembly unanimously
    SACRAMENTO - Assembly Bill 1295, authored by Assemblymember Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield), passed the Assembly today with unanimous support. The bill requires the California Community Colleges and the California State University to jointly develop and implement a transfer pathway between Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) programs and Bachelor's of Science Nursing (BSN) programs that will eliminate duplicative coursework.
