The Kern Valley Historical Society May meeting was well attended by students, parents and members. Fourth and fifth grade students from Kernville Elementary, Wallace Elementary, and South Fork Elementary presented and displayed award winning history projects. Bob Woods coordinated the Historical Contest by assigning of the projects, judging, and the presentation to the members. Judges included Bob Woods, Cassie Wingender, Anne Litz, Elizabeth Bardos and Ron Boylard of the Historical Society.

California History was the topic of the fourth grade projects. The students were to pick a historic location in California and research it. The fifth grade project concerned the Kern River Valley. The students were to pick a person who had died. All student projects had to have a written research report, a physical display, and an oral presentation.
