Inspiration from my father still coming from above

With Father’s Day Sunday just around the corner, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all you fathers a happy sporting day.

It will be five years the end of this month that my own dad passed away. As sports-minded as my father was, it was always easy to know what to buy him as a present.

To be perfectly honest, I have turned into my father because I am now the same way. I like to get things for my sports room. Mostly New York Giants and New York Mets items, but I do occasionally let other teams occupy a little bit of space.

My dad was also easy to buy for as you could get him Mets or Giants memorabilia and he would be satisfied. He would proudly display it for all to see and make sure if you like another team to rub it in your face. Of course, I never do that, but... Ok I do do that. I guess the genes do not fall far from the New York tree.

Anyway, getting back to my dad. I just want to say thanks dad for all you gave me and continue to lead me in inspiration from up above. I miss you.

You used to have my back when your grandson’s would put the Mets or Giants down and we always came out on top in the friendly discussion.

Happy Father’s Day dad!

• On a side note if you see my wife Colleen, wish her a special Happy Birthday. She reached the half century mark on Tuesday. Of course, while she was climbing up that fifth hill, she hurt her knees. She tries to blame it on volleyball, but we all know better.

Happy fiftieth Birthday Colleen. “May the days that follow be as wonderful for you as the days that have passed by.”
