Hoping to get off the losing side, CARE battled the Pounders into extra innings in the co-ed softball Game-of-the Week.

Looking for their first win of the year, CARE tried everything they could to collect the winning score, but the Pounders had the last at bats and produced the winning run to send CARE off with another loss.

Dan Stewart, of the Pounders, throws to first base in a recent co-ed softball game. Stewart had three hits and a pair of RBIs including a game winning double in a 13-14 win over the CARE team.

The CARE squad fell behind 1-0 after one inning, but battled back to score three times in the top of the second to lead 3-1.

The Pounders answered with five of their own to put them back into the lead 6-3.

They would add five more in the third to increase the margin to 11-3.

CARE scored one run in the top of the fourth and the Pounders matched that effort to make the score 12-4.

CARE in the top of the seventh would explode for eight runs as they sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning.

They had four hits, and took advantage of four fielding errors by the Pounders to knot the score at 13-13.

CARE’s defense held the Pounders scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to send it into extra innings.

In the top of the eight, CARE had two runners on with only one out, but failed to capitalize as the inning ended with an infield fly and a ground out to third.

The Pounders took their turn in the bottom of the eighth. With one out a double put a runner at second base.

The next batter singled and saw the runner thrown out at the plate to keep the score tied at 13-13.

Dan Stewart came up with the two-out game-winning double as the runner crossed the dish giving the Pounders the win and the CARE team so close yet so far.

The Pounders were led by Justin Miller with four hits and two RBIs.

Tammy and Dan Stewart each had three hits and a pair of RBIs, while Mary Whitfield, Latisha Shuman and John Funk each had two hits.

Paul Quinn and Andy had one hit and one RBI apiece, while Jason had one hit.

The CARE squad was led by Chris Stevens with two hits and two RBIs.

Anthony Newfield, Kelsey Beam, Tina Stoddard and Russell each had two hits, while Ian Newfield drove in a pair of runs with a single.
