Man found dead in Kern River near Johnsondale

According to a July 12 story in the Porterville Recorder, someone notified authorities on Saturday of a male body found in the Kern River near Johnsondale, located southeast of Porterville in the Sequoia National Forest. Kern River runs through a mountainous area of the forest alongside State Mountain 99.

The estimated time of death was 1:50 p.m. The coroner’s office reported that the body arrived at the Tulare County morgue at 4:10 p.m. No autopsy has taken place as of July 13. No new information was available at presstime from the Tulare Sheriff’s Department.
