California Highway Patrol:

SUSPICION OF DUI: On 07-19-09 Bernardino Peraza Funes, 40, of Palmdale was observed driving southbound on Sierra Way from Kernville, weaving repeatedly and crossing over the solid double yellow lines. An enforcement stop was made and the subsequent investigation led to Lunes’ arrest for DUI.

SUSPICION OF DUI: On 07-20-09 Derith Evelyn Hansen, 68, of Bodfish was observed driving eastbound on Bodfish Canyon Rd. from Lake Isabella Blvd. weaving repeatedly and continually crossing over the solid double yellow lines. An enforcement stop was made and the subsequent investigation led to Hansen’s arrest for DUI.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: On 07-22-09 Courtney Nicole Safir, 19, of Weldon was stopped for driving 44 MPH in a 25 MPH zone as she drove eastbound on Edith Ave. while approaching Lake Isabella Blvd. A traffic stop was initiated and the subsequent investigation led to her arrest for driving while under the influence of a controlled substance.

SUSPICION OF DUI: On 07-23-09 Horance Yount Jenkins Jr., 73, of Parker, AZ was observed driving eastbound on Buena Vista Dr. at Sierra Way stopped at the stop sign on Buena Vista Dr. Jenkins made a left turn in front of an approaching southbound vehicle, causing the vehicle to slow in order to avoid a collision with Jenkins. Jenkins was contacted at 14001 Sierra Way and displayed the objective symptoms of alcoholic beverage intoxication. The subsequent investigation led to his arrest for DUI.

SUSPICION OF DUI: On 07-23-09 Michael Leonard Tarman, 45, of Bodfish was observed driving erratically on Lake Isabella Launch #19 and weaving repeatedly on Barlow Rd. from Lake Isabella Launch #19. An enforcement stop was made and the subsequent investigation led to Tarman’s arrest for DUI.

REPORT OF COLLISION: On 07-24-09 William Leslie Knight, 63, of Glenville was driving southbound on Jacks Ranch Rd. south of the Kern/Tulare County line at an unknown rate of speed when for unknown reasons he allowed his 2001 Jeep to cross over the northbound traffic lane and run off the northbound roadway edge. Knight overcorrected his steering to the right and then quickly overcorrected back towards the left as the Jeep re-entered the northbound traffic lane. After overcorrecting his steering back to the left, the Jeep began rotating in a counterclockwise direction as it ran back off of the northhbound road edge. As the Jeep ran back off of the northbound roadway edge it overturned an undetermined number of times during which time both Knight and passenger Thomas Ambrosic, 54, of Glenville were fully ejected from the vehicle. Both occupants of the Jeep were transported to Kern Medical Center where they were treated for major injuries. The subsequent investigation led to Knight’s arrest for driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and causing injury to another.

REPORT OF COLLISION: On 7-23-09, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Jimmy Guinn, 77 of Yorba Linda, Calif. was driving eastbound on Hwy. 155 east of Wofford Blvd. when the brakes in his 1997 Coachmen Motor Home became overheated and inoperable. As Guinn approached Wofford Blvd. he was unable to stop at which time he attempted to turn left from eastbound Hwy. 155 onto northbound Wofford Blvd. Guinn was unable to safely negotiate the left turn at which time his 2004 Saturn Vue (which was being towed) became detached from the motor home. The motor home struck the cement curb and then it struck the west side of the Kern River Outfitters Building (located at the northeast corner of the intersection). After the towed vehicle became detached, it also struck the curb, then a cinder block and wood fence and then it struck the south side of the same building. The collision resulted in mahjor damage to both vehicles and the building. Both occupants in the vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries.
