Attorney General files criminal charges against Pam Ott, former healthcare district CEO

Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced that former Kern Valley Hospital administrator Pamela Ott was charged on eight felony counts of elder abuse today, Sept. 8. The complaint charges Ott allowed staff to forcibly administer psychotropic medications to patients for their own convenience, rather than for their patients' therapeutic interests. These actions are alleged to have resulted in the deaths of three nursing home residents.

Former KVHD CEO Pam Ott faces criminal charges in SNF deaths

2010 Isabella Lake Fishing Derby to offer more than $200,000 in prizes

Planning for the 2010 Isabella Lake Fishing Derby sponsored by the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce is well under way. This year’s Derby will be offering over $200,000 in prize money as well as many free prizes and raffle items for everyone. Many local and regional sponsors are already on board, and the derby will again be offering 10 prize fish worth $10,000 each, and one fish sponsored by the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce worth $21,000 to celebrate the 21st year of the Derby.

Stratton honored for 23 years of service

Nearly 100 valley residents turned out to wish Senior Deputy James Stratton a happy retirement on Friday night at Paradise Cove. Stratton worked for the Kern County Sheriff's Department for 23 years serving in various areas of the county. "It was easy," said Stratton, who then paused, "I take that back. Somedays were easy." Stratton plans to move out of state, raise his family, and enjoy life during retirement. Above, James Stratton and wife Valerie Stratton receive a plaque commemorating his many years of service from Sgt. Dean Marshall.

Wofford Heights Bionicon Demo Center wracked by fire

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, a fire erupted at the Kern Valley Bionicon Demo Center in Wofford Heights. Wendy and Paul Ferguson, owners of the high-end mountain bike store at 6511 Wofford Blvd., had just celebrated the grand opening of their new showroom and fully-equipped workshop during the Labor Day weekend.
