Kern Valley Healthcare District: To the CEO and Board of Trustees, Rural Health Clinic Staff, Kern Valley Hospital Staff

Published on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 10:19 PM PDT

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the services you have provided to me and to my family during the years I have lived in the valley.

I have been a patient at the Rural Health Clinic for many years. I always receive quality care and attention. I most particularly appreciate my primary care giver, Greg Davis. During an examination several years ago, he was concerned with my heart rhythm and ordered an EKG. I mentioned that I was going to see my orthopedist in Bakersfield the following day (which he remembered). When I arrived at Kern Bone and Joint there was a message from my cardiologist. Greg had relayed my EKG results and asked for his opinion. Later that day I had an angiogram. (Which was clear, thank goodness.) How often do you hear a story like that?

A year ago I had my first and only gall bladder attack. Greg Davis ordered an ultrasound and found I had gallstones. At my request, he referred me to Dr. Skoggerson. I met the doctor when he first came to the hospital. We were seated together at a committee meeting and I resolved then that I would ask for him if I ever needed surgery. My appointment with him was relaxed and extremely informative. JoAnn Jones gave me my pre surgery instructions and I was greeted by her cheerful face the morning of surgery. The surgery wasn’t long and I was amazed that I had no pain afterwards! I never did have more than mild discomfort. The best part of all was that I went to our local hospital (no drive down, and back up the canyon), and I was home a little after lunch.

This past summer I developed a bad case of bronchitis, which asthma complicated. After my first-time-ever ambulance ride, I was given very kind and efficient treatment and care by Dr. Crawford and the emergency room staff. While I was there I observed, at close quarters, the excellent care and attention given to others in the room. That has always been my experience in the E.R.

I feel blessed to say that I receive the very best care from the medical staff of the Rural Health Clinic and the Kern Valley Hospital. Friends and neighbors, they are in my prayers when I count my blessings. How comforting it is to put myself into the skillful hands of people I know and respect. I am extremely grateful for all the good things the KVHD has provided for me and our community in the thirty plus years I have been in the valley.

" It looks like a lot of people have already had the "woke up stupid event" here in the valley; chances are those who are sitting on the board will not have their positions much longer, three days of cash to run the facility is not very healthy, could be the docs are just getting paid too much money? "

" If I do wake up dumb, who do I call to transport me to the hospital that I cannot go to? Just asking. "

" Hi guys, yes, I would ask what hospital dumb folks would use if smart people use the one here in the KRV? Is the Hospital here only for smart folks? Really? I will have to report that perhaps, especially coming from the Board????? good stuff. Love you all. Lets remain smart so we can utilize the hospital otherwise we may wake up stupid and have no care up here. "

" John Pair: Thank you for your positive input regarding the much maleigned Healthcare District. You have expressed like feelings/facts as are known by the majority population of this Kern River Valley. The Hospital has been used by smart people for a long time and it will remain in service in spite of those whose goal is to destroy and/or control it. "
