The results are in!

The Kern Valley Pride Day held on Saturday, Sept. 19, resulted once again in an enormous amount of trash being collected throughout the valley. A total of 696 enthusiastic volunteers brought in a mind boggling 6.37 tons of trash.

Smokey Bear made a special appearance with his sidekick Jason Foreman at the Sept. 19 Pride Day picnic at French Gulch campground.

Certificates were presented to all of the 58 groups that participated in the event, with cash prizes going to the three that collected the greatest amount. First place winner was the Nuui Cunni Cultural Center that received $250 for their combined efforts. In second place, Ruth and Wayne Barker took away $100 which they in turn donated to the Camp KEEP program. The Kern Valley Exchange Club and the KVHS Excel Club took third place and claimed their $50 prize.

Sponsors of the annual event included; California Land Management, Camp Irwin Owen, Kern Valley Sun, QAB Media, The Ice Company, Thomas Refuse, Inc. and the United States Forest Service.

" Thank you for an accurate article on this Pride Day event; the first article did not make sense, was so convoluted, as not to be under stood! Congratulations to all who participated! "
