Adrienne Freeman, of the National Park Service, announced this evening, "The search for Jordan and Jacob Zeman and Lanier Rogers in Kings Canyon National Park concluded successfully on Oct. 15."

Jordan Zeman, 25, his brother Jake Zeman, 23, and their friend, Lanier Rogers, 25, a San Bernardino police officer, were reported missing Monday night, around 10:00 p.m., after they failed to contact family as planned, Freeman said.

The group was spotted by a search helicopter about noon on Oct. 15 above the Roaring River Falls near Cedar Grove. Preliminary contact was made with the group from the helicopter, and all appeared to be in good physical condition.

A short-haul helicopter operation was used to safely extract the hikers who were stranded in steep terrain on a ledge above the river.

The hikers were reunited with their families late Thursday afternoon. Approximately 50 searchers from around the state, including Fresno County, Sierra Madre, and China Lake Search and Rescue participated in the search along with park personnel.

" I am inherently insecure because of the newness of 'blogging'... a continuous work in progress. I see the non-LEGS chose not to favor us with any further comment. Not surprising, based on a previous comment about not hearing from them. Too busy beating their chests!! "

    Lots of kind thoughts,

" LOL, I like your post, Ann. I was stationed on both Fort Lewis and Hunter Army Airfield, homes to battalions of the 75th Ranger Regiment. They are very pretty, but the constant mindless chest-beating was a bit much. "

I want my tax dollars and allegance to be devoted to ones who answer to those they "serve" -- YES, serve -- we are your bosses-- you serve us. the Anerican public and residents here in the KRV. You are our servants no matter how many stars, stripes or attitudes you have. Remember that. We are your bosses. You are menial servants. "

" Airborne Ranger, be honest, please. If the lost hikers were leftest liberals, gays or welfare recipients, in fact if they were simply non-military honchos, would this situation have been "blown out of proportion"? Or would you have been posting here that the State of California is in a deficit and the idiots stranded should brunt the cost of recovery? Be honest, now, please. to humor me and the rest of the onlookers to this blog. "

However, to witness here the "good ol' boy" network erodes from the level of respect the "non-LEGS" should really have. I am disappointed in the posts by one Airborne Ranger. Perhaps you should stay in the air, elevated above us little pee-ons and LEGS. Thanks for the insight into your little boys club. "

" Hey, Airborne Ranger? Without the "legs" you guys would be pretty useless on your own, so how about you cut the elitist garbage? Fix your own planes, get your own food and supply yourselves if you think you're so great. "

" I'm glad they are home with their families. Much thanks to the rescue team members for their heroin acts. Charge them nothing! Send the bill to the “Bill Them” character who posted the previous remarks; he seems so concerned about the lousy condition the state is in and funding for rescuers and what not. Must be a liberal democratic Desk Jockey! Get a Life! I agree with Airborne Ranger. You shouldn’t put a price on saving lives. God Bless them! "

" Thank God those men were rescued. This is just an occurrence that became blown out of proportion and should be allowed to subside. Their safe, and that is the bottom line. Send your rescue bill to Obama's Office in Washington DC. where more head-aching debt to the country is being created. One of the men rescued was a one time member of an airborne special ops unit out Fort Bragg, NC. He's done his country tons of service, and has paid his dues. Let it go. He's no LEG! He's a patriot! "

" Thank God for their safety! Never put a price on saving lives. Bill Them Nothing! Only a "Moron" would suggest such a stupid notion! They pay taxes like everyone else. That's an emergency service in a Federal Park; sought out after numerous attempts by their family members to locate their whereabouts were exhausted. Imagine yourself in their shoes before you post absurd and preposterous comments. "

AirborneRanger wrote on Oct 19, 2009 3:33 PM:

" I know Officer Rogers personally; he's highly skilled in land navigation and survival tactics. If anything, Mother Nature had him pinned alongside the ledge of a ridge line with rising waters creating rushing rapids that were non passable. More than likely their family members were just worried after they didn’t make the destination eta, and contacted authorities and park rangers to assist in confirming their whereabouts. That’s why we have Park Rangers. A federal resource with a purpose; not rent-a-cops! "

" I don't know any details. If people deliberately ignore instructions or attempt something that is obviously beyond their training and experience then they should be charged. But if their situation is beyond their control or due to an accident then I see no reason to charge for their rescue. Rescue organizations are hesitant to charge for rescues even if the situation is due to stupidity(and I am not saying that this is the case here) since it would make people hesitant to call for help.

Rescues are not cheap volunteers or not. Helicopters alone cost thousands to operate. "

" The most likely way of getting trapped on a ledge is to slide down to the ledge where it's too steep to climb back up (without ropes). This is tantamount to burning your bridges behind you. It's a very reckless thing to do, unless you're sure that there's an exit from the ledge.
I don't think much public money should be spent on a search where there has been reckless behavior. The problem is that one doesn't know that this is the case until the missing people are found. "

You all need to be fiscally responsbile, as do the hikers. "

Please be them on that ledge... "

I'd hate for karma to come around and bite you in the behind and teach you a lesson regarding the horrible things you said! Have a nice life!

I am so relieved they were found. Their family has been so worried! Thanks to everyone that were out there looking for them!! "

So CAN IT, or get your @$$ out there and help instead of complaining about the cost. Theres no cost on a human life. "
