In the early hours of Nov. 4, Kern Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded to 5277 Hooper Road in Weldon regarding a home invasion robbery. Stanley Harrington reported approximately five male suspects forced entry into his residence at gun point. He stated they entered his residence and announced themselves as the Sheriff’s Office by saying. “This is the Kern Valley Sheriff Department! This is a raid!”

One of the suspects was wearing what appeared to be a uniform shirt with the Sheriff’s Office logo on it. The other four suspects were wearing gloves, dark green ski masks, dark green sweatshirts, and camouflage pants. Taken from the residence was approximately eight pounds of processed marijuana, $800 in cash, and a black 32” L.G. flat screen T.V. worth $650. The suspects were last seen driving west bound on Bella Vista Drive toward Vista Grande in a brown SUV.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Detective Anton at (760) 549-2039.

" I'm missing something about this whole medical marijuana thing. Why smoke it and damage your lungs (Smoke of any kind damages lungs)? Tell me all day that's its the fastest way but wouldn't be simpler to take it in a way that didn't cause the intoxicating effects? Getting high isn't medicine. I understand it has positive effect but just use those parts of the marijuana. "

I had hopes that I would log on & see new names, compassionate theories & some encouraging verbage. SURPRISE! the same clowns are on here 'in fighting' like you would on a playground. Go back to school & leave this forum to those who have something to say! *pray for victims of crime & stay alert! "

" Wow a lot of differing viewpoints here. So here is mine. It does not matter what the pot was for. A home invasion robbery is not cool. It is seriously scary. Robbers posing as Sheriffs?? Crime is crime. Home invasion is a crime. The fact that money and other belongings were taken is a shame. I would not want to deal with the loss. Could not afford it, specially if rent was due and the money stolen. "

i dont htink they would be in the house otherwise? "

Unsurprisingly, there are dishonorable people who take advantage of the format. Since most of the other posters on this forum, even ones I disagree with, seem to be on a pretty even keel, it's not hard to pick that one out. ;) "

" to think about it: For the record, I am pro-legalization, really, look what alcohol does to people's lives compared to marijuana. My only assumption is that he was dealing- based on the fact that if I had eight pounds of pot in my house, i would not share that info with anyone i didn't trust, like "customers," AND eight pounds is A LOT of cannabis. Again, I am neither defending or convicting Stanley of anything. And your right- the police in town need to do something about tweekers. Meth will be the death of this valley. "

Thinking about it wrote on Nov 21, 2009 2:49 PM:

" Think about it? If the guy has it for medicinal purposes, why would these guys know about it? They didn't hit the house at random. They knew it was there. Which would imply they knew the guy. Which would imply he's no saint. If he hangs around with guys like this, I seriously doubt he had it around for medical use. And when was the last time you had $800 cash laying around? "

" I agree, this person could be fighting cancer . also maybe afraid to put his money in a bank! If you are not sick then maybe you do not know the side effects of chemo. If pot helps to releive pain, you would probably try it too. They maybe tweekers that need to be put behind bars, but lets not put all the blame on pot. Their will always be rotten people that will find some reason to steal something for some reason. "

" uuuhhhh...there is more meth in this town to be worried about than wondering why someone has posession of eight pounds of Marijuana. Marijuana can be kept a long time and not go bad. When you are ill, you wanna make sure you have it around without having to worry about finding it. Deal with the tweekers who are probably the ones responsible for this whole home invasion...not the stoners. "

" i don't think i would have called the police on this one....maybe just let it slide. Hazard of the job i guess, not to bright to call the cops, your not going to get your "product" back regardless (assuming it was not medicinal use.....eight pounds !?!) "

Mac wrote on Nov 19, 2009 12:27 PM:

" Yeah, 8 pounds is a bunch of pot; I can't imagine someone needing that much for medicinal purposes. That doesn't mean I think they deserved to get their home broken into, but it's certainly a lesson either way to keep your mouth shut about what you've got in your house. "

KRVer wrote on Nov 19, 2009 9:08 AM:

" Your forced me....my heart goes out to the person who lost his/her rent money and the TV and IF it's a case of medical pot, then that's sad too but.....do you know how much 8 pds is?? Even if you smoke all day....that would certainly last a very long time....AND has a street value of about $8,000! Why would a 'cancer patient' need so much? "

" I am sitting here reading the 'back & forth' opinions regarding $800, a TV & 8lbs of pot being stolen from a home in Weldon. I'm hoping to 'encourage' some compassion in this 'ever so judgemental' valley... \POSSIBLY: The person robbed had the pot because he's fighting cancer. He had $800 to pay his rent, because he doesnt have a bank account & the TV they stole, was all the entertainment he had while fighting off the effects of chemo. I hope this narrow minded judgement of a brutal crime is not true for the masses in KRV. "

" Home invasions are acts of terrorism and are to be feared. And, if this was a home invasion robbery with no drugs (pot or otherwise) involved, I would not rest easily tonight. However, I agree with KRVer and Rek that when drugs and especially "tweakers" are involved, it could get serious. Drug addiction can drive desperate people to desperate measures. I certainly do not want to be a victim. Really, though, were the sheriffs involved?? I have heard some stories about their involvement with drugs and resales. Just wondering? "

Mac wrote on Nov 18, 2009 11:37 AM:

" Sorry for the nitpickiness, KRVer; I was in a bit of a mood last night. I get what you say, but it does concern me that those type of people exist here in the valley. There are law-abiding people with valuables in their homes as well.

Hopefully they will be caught soon, I can't imagine it would be hard to figure out who knew it was there, combined with who suddenly has a lot of money or pot to sell. "

KRVer wrote on Nov 18, 2009 9:06 AM:

" Okay, sorry. Let's start over. I am not terrified about an invasion that would not have happened if there weren't drugs to steal. Neither the invasion or the sale of drugs terrify me but it is a concern that they will end up on our streets. Better? "

Rek wrote on Nov 18, 2009 8:18 AM:

" Sure, KRVer, this time it was pot. But if pot thieves are willing to go this far ( and able to aquire Sheriff costumes ) then I won't be surprised when tweakers start doing this. Tweakers don't just steal drugs either, they will steal anything that they can sell or trade for drugs, which means anybody is a potential victim, not just other drug users. "

Mac wrote on Nov 17, 2009 1:50 PM:

" "It's more terrifying that they were going to sell it all in this valley!"

In other words, "selling all that pot in this valley is a terrifying thought". What other context is there? "

KRVer wrote on Nov 17, 2009 11:23 AM:

" Mac, don't take it out of context. I didn't say selling pot was "terrifying"...I said the invasion wouldn't have happened if the pot wasn't there to be taken. None of it is "terrifying" to me.....sad, as any addiction is....but it doesn't make me panic...which is what terrified means. "

Mac wrote on Nov 16, 2009 6:53 PM:

" KRVer, you did say it's more terrifying that they were going to sell it all in this valley, which I also took to mean "pot is more terrifying than a home invasion". I don't find pot nearly as "terrifying" as something like heroin or meth. That's like finding alcohol terrifying.

Perhaps this person had been smoking too much of their wares because what kind of idiot reports the theft of illegal substances from their home? What do they think, they're going to get it back? "

KRVer wrote on Nov 16, 2009 9:26 AM:

" No Rek, I'm not "terrified" of a home invasion in this valley...and that's one of the reason's why I live here. They were after the pot, plain and simple and if it hadn't been there, the invasion would not have taken place. My priorities are perfectly aligned....no pot sales to the kids of our valley is on the list. "

" If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck..then it IS a duck! He got what he deserved. It's obvious that another druggie wanted his drugs too. It didn't state any where that this guy had a medical card, sooo he got what he deserved. If he had $800 in cash, then it's obvious he was also selling the pot. Against the law..plain and simple! "

Rek wrote on Nov 14, 2009 1:09 PM:

" KRVer, are you saying you're more terrified of pot dealers than people brazen enough to break into a home, while the occupants are home, pretending to be law enforcement officers? And apparently at least one of them was dressed the part.

If that's the case, I suspect you may have your priorities a little mixed up. "

Toke wrote on Nov 13, 2009 3:17 PM:

" Does anyone wonder why these people had 8 pounds of pot in the first place? That's all they wanted! It's more terrifying that they were going to sell it all in this valley! "
