The Kern Valley Jayvee Broncs (5-1,1-0 HDL) defeated the visiting Cal City Ravens 41-25 on Friday, improving their overall record and notching their first league victory of the season.
“This was a total team effort,” said Head Coach Jimmy Thompson, “Our offensive line, especially the guards, had the best blocking and pulls this season.”

The Broncs received the opening kick off and after driving 77-yards, Atkinson blasted his way into the end zone from three yards out, giving Kern Valley an early 7-0 lead.
The Broncs extended their lead scoring three additional touchdowns, including a nine-yard touchdown run from Reilly, followed by Atkinson’s second of the game, and another from Riley in the final minutes of the second quarter, giving the Broncs a commanding 24-0 lead at the half.
Cal City finally ended the shut out midway through the third, scoring on a 55-yard touchdown pass and successful two-point conversion, narrowing the deficit to 24-8.
The Broncs answered right back increasing their lead by 27, when Atkinson sliced past the Ravens defense and into the end zone on a five yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Cal City, far from finished, scored 17 points in the fourth to close in on the Broncs lead.
Kern Valley’s Kevin Little capped the scoring for the Broncs when he pushed his way over the goal line on a one yard quarterback keeper. Little was 4-of-10 for just 42 yards passing.
“Kevin (Little) again threw the ball with great touch and accuracy,” said Thompson, “We would have had more passing yardage but we dropped several catchable passes.”
