Freshman Broncs back on winning track

After a tough loss against Big Bear the Freshman Broncs faced off against a stubborn Cal City team. With both teams at 5 and 1, and coming off their first loss of the year.

Cal City drew first blood on their opening drive, but missed their extra point. The first quarter ended 6-0. The Broncs offense struggled at first, then they hit stride with a 49 yard touchdown pass from Jordan Jost to Coby Ritchison. The extra point was good, giving the Broncs a 7-6 lead at the half.

The Broncs received the second half kickoff and drove down the field to score on a 15 yard run by Conrad Miller, the extra point attempt failed. The third quarter ended 13-6.

Jacob Lightner ended the game with eight tackles and three receptions for 61 yards. Jost finished with 122 yards passing. Miller had six tackles. Ritchison ended with five tackles. Zac Sietsma had a tackle. Trevor Hurly finished with five tackles. Joey Miller, Kyle Vanderford and Logan Speakman each had one tackle.

Soph. Broncs 12-Cal City 8

The Sophomore Broncs (7-0) took on the Cal City Eagles (5-1) Saturday in a match up of the top two teams. Earlier in the season the Broncs snuck out with a 7-6 victory.

Cal City received the opening kickoff and almost returned it for a touchdown. The Eagles had the ball at the Bronc’s 16-yard line. The Eagles drove all they way down to the one yard line before the Broncs defense was able to stop them on downs.

With less than 45 seconds to play in the first half and fourth down with the ball on the 29 yard line Keaton Kissack’s pass to Sammie Adams was completed for a 29 yard touchdown pass to give the Broncs a 6-0 lead to end the first half.

The Broncs put together a drive using up over six minutes. Hawk’s halfback pass to Kissack was good for 36 yards giving the Broncs the ball on the four yard line. Four plays later, Austin Hurley scored to give the Broncs a 12-0 lead with three minutes to play in the game.

The Eagles received the kickoff and immediately went to throwing the ball and after five consecutive passes scored with 1:25 left in the game. The extra point was good to make the score 12-8. The Broncs ran the clock out to improve their season record to 7-0.

Offensively the Broncs were lead by Shane Hawk’s 15 carries for 101 yards, Onstott’s nine carries for 33 yards, Hurley’s 10 carries for 15 yards. Adams had two receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.

On defense the Broncs were lead by Hawk’s (10) tackles, Adam’s (7), Armstrong’s (5), Marty McIrvin, Hurley, Kissack and Onstott (4).

Rookie Broncs

Gigi Sage

The Kern Valley Broncs Rookie team hosted the California City Eagles. At the rookie level, the coaches are on the field and no score is kept.

The Bronc Rookies started off with Jordan Aguilar running the ball for a 52 yard touchdown. Aguilar went on to score two more touchdowns, running the ball for a total of 174 yards. Tristin Preston, ran the ball two times for a nine yards. Damon Sage, carried the ball seven times for 55 yards.

Leading the team was Aguilar with 12 tackles. Paul Sellers with eight, Sage with five and Josh Reiswig with three.
