Corey Mixon and Stephen Corcoran helped the Broncs rack up 480 yards of offense and a pair of touchdowns apiece, as Kern Valley rolled over the visiting Desert Scorpions 41-14 on Friday.

The victory improves Kern Valley’s overall record to 6-1, as the team remains undefeated (2-0) in High Desert League play.

Kern Valley’s Kevin Little of the jayvee Broncs unleashes a pass in a recent home game against Cal City with teammates and opposing players at his feet. On Friday the Broncs defeated Desert.

The Broncs received the ball to start the contest and quickly opened the scoring when Mixon broke out of the backfield and sprinted into the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown giving Kern Valley an early 7-0 lead.

Early in the second, the Broncs extended their lead to 14 when Matt Reilly rumbled into for a touchdown from five yards out, capping off a nine-play drive.

After forcing the Scorpions to a quick 3-and-out Kern Valley tacked on seven more points when Kevin Little and first year sophomore receiver, Corcoran, hooked up on a 59-yard touchdown toss.

The Scorpions finally got on the board a little over midway through the second, with the Broncs still leading 21-7 at the half.

Brandon Vittoria came up with a huge fumble recovery to begin the third that started a five play drive that ended when Kern Valley’s leading rusher Dylen Atkinson, who had been held without a touchdown through the first half, blasted his way in for a 17-yard touchdown.

On the ensuing kick off, the Scorpions stung the Broncs special teams scoring a touchdown on a 77-yard return, once again narrowing the deficit 28-14.

The Broncs added to the score with a three yard touchdown run from Mixon, his second of the contest, and a 40-yard TD toss from Little to Corcoran late in the fourth, ending the game 41-14.

The Broncs defense was tenacious, allowing their opponent just 192 total yards. Robert Ochoa and Kurt Evans led the defense with 10 tackles with Ochoa and Matt Reilly recording one quarterback sack each.

“This was a big win for us,” said head coach Jimmy Thompson, “after having so many players missed this weeks practice sessions with illness and injuries. Our next game will be a big one against a very good Bishop team on the road.”

Broncs quarterback Kevin Little completed 2-for-4 for 99 yards passing.

The Broncs will play at Bishop on Friday.
