Lady Broncs get league win over Bishop

It took most of the season, but Kern Valley finally put a High Desert League win in the books.

On Oct. 29, the Lady Broncs took on Bishop at home. The two teams battled evenly and in the end the match was tied 9-9.

Kern Valley’s, Chelsea Cormack returns a shot in a recent home match. The lady Broncs beat Bishop on Oct. 29.

The tiebreaker came down to the amount of games won. Kern Valley collected 70 game wins, while Bishop only had 68.

With the tiebreaker in Kern Valley’s favor they won the match.

The doubles combinations earned six team points, while singles play for the Lady Broncs earned three points.

Chelsea Cormack and Christina Brown won two of three sets 6-1 and 6-1, while dropping one set 2-6.

The doubles team of Bethany Stanton and Abbey Stanton also won two of three sets 6-4 and 6-0 they lost one set 2-6.

The final pair of Ashley Hampton and Charlotte Padgett also had two sets wins 6-2 and 6-1, while losing one set 2-6.

In singles, Kristie Edwards earned two team points with two set wins 6-2 and 6-1, while losing one set 1-6. Nattikan Choorat won one of her three sets 6-2, before falling 1-6 and 4-6. Linda Hernandez lost all three sets 0-6, 2-6 and 2-6.

Head Coach Brian Christianson said, “It is amazing how well we play against Bishop at home. Last week we lost to Bishop 14-4 and this week the girls played really hard and won five more sets and won the match on total games won. I am especially glad for our seniors to go out on a match like this one.”

Two days before, Kern Valley lost to Mammoth at home 14-4.

The only members of the team to earn team points were the doubles teams. Cormack and Brown won two sets, the Stanton’s and Hampton/Padgett each won one.

Christianson said, “Our No. 1 doubles team had a very impressive win over Mammoth’s No. 1 team.”
