Anzaldo finishes in second place to pace Kern Valley

Kern Valley’s boys cross country team traveled to Bishop to compete in the HDL Finals.

The outcome of their efforts paid off big, the boy’s team qualified for CIF. On Nov.14 they will compete at San Antonio College in Walnut, California.

“The team got a great start and really pushed the pace. Ignacio Anzaldo, Tanner Cargile and Troy Hazard were named to the High Desert All League Team,” said Head Coach Don Hazard.

Anzaldo came in second place at 19:16, Cargile and Troy Hazard ran together in the race, Cargile finished in fifth place at 20:26 and Hazard came in sixth at 20:27.

Jose Lopez out-sprinted a Cal City runner the last 100 yards and finished in 14th place at 21:07, Josh Tyrrell rounded out our top five at 27th place in 25:20, Luis Peralta came in 28th place at 25:22 and Edward Rich finished in 32nd place at 27:01.

In the jayvee boys race, Chris Connolly finished in eighth place at 27:02, Joey Pistocco in his last high school race finished in 19th place at 34:13, while Brett Sorrells came in 20th place at 38:30.

A few days prior, Kern Valley participated in the Kern County Championships at Hart Park where every high school in the county competed. There were approximately 830 athletes from a total of 23 high schools.

Troy Hazard was the first Kern Valley varsity athlete to come across the finish line. He finished in 97th place with the time of 18:18. Ignacio Anzaldo came in 99th place at 18:20, followed by Jose Lopez who finished in 128th place at 20:12.

In the frosh/soph race, the boy’s ran a two mile course. Tanner Cargile was the first Kern Valley runner across the line.

Cargile finished in 18th place at 11:43, Chris Connolly finished in 82nd place at 14:37 and Brett Sorrells came in 89th place at 17:27.
